Tractor
John Deere 5055e
Came home last night to find a new 2320 with a 54" snowblower and 200cx loader, as well as 12" of fresh snow. It's taken a little shuffling around of tractors and implements, but I'm convinced that I've finally got it right. After just one pass of the blower... I'm a believer!

I never was able to connect what people were saying when they advised that a forward facing blower was the best. Between the extreme cost of a blower and the fun that I have with removing snow, I figured a blade set-up was good enough for me. But, I leave very early in the morning for work, before the plow guy shows up to do our road. We've had a couple of good dumpings in a row, including last spring - so, I spent a lot of time fighting my walk-behind to clear out my driveway since I bought my B2929 with just a loader last January. When I was done, it was cleared, but my torn rotator cuff and neck were aching pretty good. While my B2929 sat under the lean-to. I just could never get the loader on that tractor to float at an angle that wouldn't chew up the gravel driveway terribly - I don't remember having such trouble with my other JD tractor.

At any rate, I'm thrilled to be back - and when I have some more time, I plan to detail the differences between my Kubota and Deere that lead me to buy this tractor. In the mean time, here's pic - I gotta get back to work!

Very nice looking rig...

On side-note, I like seeing screen names that are tied to a color, but not the current color of the tractor :)

Willl - it's funny, ever since I was a kid, I'd cross my fingers and stuff would just happen. Take for instance when I lost a tooth. I'd put it under my pillow and in the morning, there'd be a quarter! Or write a note toward mid-December? And then soon, I'd awaken to presents by the fireplace!! Here's what I'd suggest you do to come home to brand new equipment, just like me: you know that 9-digit number the government gave you? Write it on a piece of paper and sign your name. Voila! A tractor! Problem is, they come knocking within 30 days demanding money!!

The hydro fluid seems to have dripped out when they left the loader in place, then put installed the blower. I wasn't there to take delivery. I'm assuming something must have caught the relief ball and let it drip out.

I will never under stand why people want to blow snow in reverse:confused:

Call me crazy, but wouldn't it have been simpler to buy a front blower for the 2920 ? Perhaps having the right equipment to begin with would have solved your discontent with the Kubota? Shirley you aren't going to claim a tractor with 6 less HP makes for a better snowblower.

Very nice tractor regardless.......... congratulations.

Looking at your signature line, I see you have a Frontier snowblower on your 770. Is that a front or rear mount unit? I wouldn't mind putting a snowblower on my 770, too, but I really want it on the front if I do it.

Nice looking setup, BX

I was wondering the same thing. Or something as simple as a piece of PVC pipe on the loader edge would have solved the gravel grabbin'. Still, I like the 2000 series deeres better than the botas.

You're not crazy. I am.

The simple fact of the matter is, I couldn't get used to the pedal configuration on the B2920 - where I live, I have to back into brushhogging slopes that are on the edge of about 5' drops. So, I would back up and have to hit the brakes to come to a stop, so as not to drop into the ditch. While pressing on the brake (on the right side of the tractor), I'd have to quickly jump over onto the forward pedal (also on the right side of the tractor), which caused the tractor to roll back in a disconcerting way. Granted, it was only briefly, but it was a very real sensation, sitting in the seat. Also, I couldn't get the dealer to fix the "sticking" pedal - press reverse and try to predict coming to a stop. It would keep going, which lead me more than once to panic a bit and stab at the forward hydro pedal or brake before backing into something.

Coupling that with the few hundred dollar cost difference between the Deere blower and the Kubota blower, it made it easier to justify the trade loss. But, it was a loss - there's no way to sugar coat that fact.

As I mentioned, I will post a review of the two tractors - but briefly, the additional "ergonomics" of the Deere made the trade more palatable over the long run. For instance, aside from the pedals, I like the Deere's electronic PTO switch, as opposed to the clutch on the Kubota. The loader removal process is so much easier on the Deere - lift two levers and back away, as opposed to the Kubota, which required setting the bucket, getting off the tractor and positioning two brackets and cotter pins, adjusting the bucket so as to take pressure off the loader arms, removing two more pins... it was really a process, as opposed to a "quick" disconnect. I also found it easier to operate the brushhog with the position control on the Deere, rather than the 1/4 inching on the Kubota. Finally, I like the dash light that tells me I'm in 4WD - small detail, but handy. These were details I wasn't really aware of until I bought and owned the Kubota.

As for the Kubota, I liked the seat a lot, as well as the grunt of the 29hp motor. A sweet motor, indeed. Also, I like the lift capacity of the loader. In all, it's more tractor for the money. But, for day-to-day living, it isn't as complete as the Deere. Ultimately, I realized that Kubota had to cut costs somewhere - and those were the places that I put more value in.

So, it's been a costly lesson, but one tempered by the current state of the economy - I was able to finance the Kubota for a year at 0% and now I can pay off the Deere over several years at 2.9%. Pretty low "extra" cost, considering. Were I to have done this same trading 20 years ago, I'd be stuck at 18-20% finance costs, which would have been impossible. Luckily, the Kubota has really good resale around here, so it wasn't a ridiculous loss on trade - in effect, I netted a 24hp tractor for a little more than a 29hp tractor (plus the cost of the blower). For me, it was worth it.

my 2320 just showed up - no blower yet - just FEL, but anxious to get a blade or a blower. sweet set up! Have you ever run it over any gravel, or just pavement?

How much was the 54" blower? Can I ask?

"I will never under stand why people want to blow snow in reverse"

Pretty easy to understand once you see that the forward mount is twice the price,

For my 790, it was $2,200 for a rear mount, versus, $4,000+ for forward mount, that's quite a difference.

One of the best comparison statements I have ever seen on here. No color bias. Just the facts and personal preference. Very well said.

Ductape-bear in mind that 1 JD horsepower equals 1.5 Kubota horsepower. Therefore, a 24 HP JD would blow snow like about a 525 HP Kubota. Is my math correct, here??

The front blower was a hard decision but they are awesome. My uncle tossed me the rear blade as a loaner and I have been pleased with it also because I have a new driveway to my garage that isn't ready for a blower yet. All the places I use my blower are gravel. The first few snow removals were a bit noisy but after everything froze up good it has been fine. Congrats on your setup, I hope you grin as much as I do when you use it.

Sweet machine that 2320 is but when I bought my GC2400 I could not justify the $5000 extra to get a green machine. Got a great deal on the Massey and I am please with it. It will never replace my love for John Deere but the Red of the Massey is growing on me.
