Starter info

welcome guys & gals ..this is new to me but here we go... I am wondering if the starter for my Mf 1020 can be replaced from off the shelf at a auto parts supply store and what would I ask for...again I appreciate any help and its nice to know there is such a fanatasic resource like this out there as I am older and not really computer sauvy

Do you have a hydo drive or gear drive tractor?

I just checkede and they take the same one. You can get a rebuit from MF for $135 or have you taken it to a starter shop to see if it can be rebuil. either way i think you will spend about the same.

It is the Hydro...this has me baffled after glow plugs and I turn the key some times its starts and other time you have to turn the key upperwards to 15 or 20 times but in most case it will eventually start

When your turning the key is it clicking, trying to turn over, or nothing at all happens. If its clicking it could be in your wires or the battery. If it isnt doing anything i would look at the key switch.

When key is turned there is nothing... have replaced the battery and the key switch... turn it 10 or 15 times nothing and then out of the blue it will catch...

I'm thinking your key switch or connections to it.

Should be traceable with a diagram and volt meter.
