Those of you who use these on your tractors do you remove the tractor cables or just put the leads on with the battery cables still hooked to the battery?

I have wired in quick disconnects to the terminals that are right below the edge of the platform, so I don't have to swing the battery box out to hook up the trickle charger. This battery is going on 4 years.

Get yourself a batteryminder that desulphates. They come with quick disconnects and you will be happy.

To answer your question, you can leave the battery cables on the battery when you hook up the battery maintainer... There might be vehicles out there that this statement might not be true, but I have never found one yet. I have three maintainers humming out in my barn right now. One on my mowing tractor for the winter, one on my Dodge Cummins, and one on my JD 2250, since I have only had to fire it up once this winter to blow snow....

Ditto,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Just hook up battery tender/maintainer leads to battery posts, leave battery cables as is................

Tickle chargers
I thought maybe someone came up with a new type of charger, you just "tickle" your battery if it dies :laughing: Could not resist.
I do have a cheapo trickle charger from HF that I use in the cold months, works great just hook the clamps and plug in.

ditto that. on the tickle charger. i thought it might be a new exciting option out there
ditto on not removing cables. nothing should be drawing anyway.. and if it is.. it's eaither minscule like for radio memory.. or it's something that needs to be fixed.

ok.. well their corporate office 'home of the battery tender' is located a couple cities east of me. for some reason the corporate office has a huge 4 ac industrial facility attached to the back of the main brick building. guess they use that as in indoor gymnasium or something? ( I'd go R&D or even refurb / repair possibly.. local distrobution point even.. )

I need to add some quick disconnects, but for now, it is tie wrapped to grill guard. It's weatherproof, so no big deal.
I plug it in whenever I park the tractor. Mostly because my alternator is not charging right now, but it keeps the battery good and "hot".
No need to disconnect anything.

sorry the picture isnt very good - its the first one of them i could google. they are $35 or so and come with a bracket that goes under your battery and holds the maintainer beside your battery. the short leads are (semi) permanently attached and then you just use an extension cord to plug it in.
this (or a similar on by any other brand) is superior to a trickle charger. a trickle charger will keep supplying juice all the time. these are trickle chargers with a brain. they shut off when the battery doesn't need charging.

Right before Christmas, TSC had the Schumacher battery minder on sale for $19.99 (regularly $24.99). They are smaller than this one, and they come with a disconnect. The actual charger is not mounted on the vehicle, you just plug the quick connect in while it is idle. I actually bought 5 of them, one for everything that has a battery (I got tired of buying new batteries for 4-wheelers and my motorcycle). The batteries will last 10 times as long if you keep them charged. I don't have AC where I keep my tractor or I would have one on it.
