Ok, I've been wanting me some corn and potatoes to grow on my own for a while now. I've decided to make a garden and need to know what size plow I need for my tractor? It's a Massey Ferguson 231. It weighs 4,065 lbs. and it DOES NOT HAVE water in the tires. It does pull a heavy 6.5' disk harrow with ease...

Do I get a 1 bottom or 2 bottom plow? 12 inch, 14 inch, or 16 inch moldboards?? Coulters or not??

The garden will be about 50 ft. wide and 100 ft. long (or maybe just a few feet smaller).

I'm 26 and have never even touched a plow before. Wanting to learn!

Thanks!

Not a very big garden. I would error on the side of too small rather than getting a plow thats too big. I would guess that your machine should handle a single 14" and won't take hardly any time to plow your garden. The bigger the plow the more traction that will be needed, and how much time would a larger plow save in such a small space?

Coulters are needed for "new" ground to help with cutting the sod.

As far as learning there are some videos from these guys Everything Attachments | Skid Steer Attachments, Tractor Attachments, 3 Point Hitch Attachments, and Farm Tractor Implements.

You'll have no problems pulling a two bottom plough. The Old Ford/Fergusson 9ns ,8ns they had no problems pulling those 2 bottom ploughs.I'll bet you can find those ploughs fairly cheap.Larry

Larry, where you think I can find the ploughs at? Where I live, it's not "farming country."

Travis, with that tractor, you definitely need a 2 bottom plow. Here are some that we have below. The first one is a Dearborn 2-12 at $395 and the second is a Ford 2-14 with coulters at $450 and the last one is a Ford 2-14 with coulters at $450 + shipping. The plow at $395 will plenty good for a garden plot. Ken Sweet

Travis, If you bought the hiller,1 row cultivator and a plow? You have 3 shipping options: Option #1 Shipping cost of _$159__ to the _Baton Rouge or New Orleans, La__
truck terminal where they will load you up Mon-Fri during normal business
hours. Option #2 would be _$159__ shipped to a 18 wheeler accessable
commercial business with 8-5 Mon-Fri-Business hours and the capability to
offload. Option #3 would be a farm or residential delivery where someone
must be there Mon-Fri-8-5 cst to offload for $189. Estimated shipping
time is approx 2-3 working days. Thanks, Ken Sweet

Note, If you must be called before delivery, please add $10 to above quotes.

Ken, the cultivator looks "small". Looks like it may be for a compact tractor?? The frame is ok on the row builder, but the disk hillers are too small for what I'm wanting. I'd like to have the 16" hillers that have the sealed ball bearings.

As for the Ford 2-14 RED PLOW, I really want it!! If you could bear with me for a little while I'd greatly appreciate it. But if you have to sell it, I understand that too because I know how tough times are right now. Trust me... I am waiting on some money to come in. I'm not sure when it'll be here but hopefully it's soon. The day I get it, I'll be calling you to buy that plow, if you still have it.

No, I don't need a 2 bottom plow but I'm certain my Massey will handle it. Besides, I've always wanted to put my tractor in the local parades with a 2-bottom plow on the back of it!

THANK YOU,

Travis R

The 1 row cultivators are all standard size like the used one I showed in the picture.(15-60 HP tractors rated). The hiller does have 16 inch blades on bearings. The shipping will drop $15 if you go with the plow alone. Ken Sweet
