Private Drive Sign

   / Private Drive Sign #61
I have all types of signs at the beginning of my road and they still come down and turn around and spin their tires leaving.
But one day I was looking out and this car came down and turned around, first 1 tire was off the tar then he tried to go forward, next thing I see is the backup lights come on and he managed to get both rears off the ground.

People pull in my driveway to turn around almost on a weekly basis. When you live out on a country road and someone going down the road (possibly looking for one of your neighbors) realizes they have gone past where they need to be they need to turn around. Much easier to pull into a driveway then back out to go the other way. If people didn't pull in my driveway to turn around (or anyone elses) they'd have to do it in the middle of the road which would take about 10 moves pulling forward, back up, forward, back up, forward, back up etc. I doubt any sign would help, if someone needs to turn around they'll do it anyway.

I agree i do it to that way, but never pull down more than the length of the vehicle before i back out. some of these guys are talking about driveways that are over 1/2 mile long. There is no reason to pull in more than a car length to turn around. Most folks even with a gate will have a car length of pull in space befor the gate so that they can open it and get out of the road. Why is it ok for them to pull down your secluded 100 yard long driveway to turn around in your yard just cause they went 200ft past their destination?

Uh, yeah, what ever happened to good old fashioned neighborliness? Is America so paranoid we have to regard everyone who happens to come up our road (whether on purpose or by accident) as a home invader???

For me, it has to do with how many times I've been ripped off. After one theft where they stole $9,000 in aluminum street light poles (9 poles 14' long), I'd had enough and the gates and video went in.

Only two thefts since then. The first, we couldn't get the plate as I didn't have the camera focused quite right. The second, we got the plate and the police payed him a visit at work since he used a company van for the theft.

I'll see if I can figure out how to post video tonight.

That's a great picture. I doubt the Subaru driver was up to no good though.

His excuse was he wanted to see what was down there,it cost him a few bucks to find out.
I always wanted to put one of those one way tire shredders like you see at car rentals, with a big sign going in FREE exit fee $50 that might stop them.

There was a guy east of my place that planted a couple acres to pine trees ... the field was right next to the county road that led to the landfill so it got a lot of traffic. He figured that his trees would be an easy target for Christmas tree 'hunters' and weekend landscapers so he posted these along the edge of the road and his driveway. The trees grew to harvest size unmolested

You might be careful with this one. We had a sign like this posted in our R&D lab just for fun and when the fire inspector came around he told us to take it down because fire and rescue personnel take these signs seriously and will not enter a property which has this displayed. Can't blame them.

Yea, we did the same with a bio-hazard sign and the fire inspector wasn't too impressed, he didn't make us take it down though. It was obviously printed on someone's inkjet printer so I guess he decided to let it slide.

I would agree, it's probably not best to use signs like this unless they are accurate. The potential implications are too grave to take the risk.

Haven't had any problems with folks driving into my place ever since we put up this sign.

Oh yeh, forgot to mention the locked gate, that probably helped too, lol. ;) Gates work nearly every time they are tried,

Enjoyed looking at your website. Saw where dogs killed a bunch of your goats. How have you prevented that from happening again? I assume more fencework?

Does the single donkey protect them well now, or haven't you had another opportunity to really find out?

We had the same issues as many who responded to this post. This is our answer. It's a seven foot tall automatic cantilever gate. You can see our CCTV camera on the tree. Proud to say it already put a thief in jail. The guy robbed our neighbor across the street. Dumbass made the mistake of backing into our drive to turn around. Got a movie of him, his truck, his license, and stolen property in the truck bed.

I really don't see how a guys with a Wendy's bag is gonna help:laughing:

No No. Not the guy with the Wendy's bag, look closely at whats behind the gate. I'm talking about the cupola with the bullet proof glass and gun ports! That is the entrance to the Cincinnati branch of the Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank. If you stand there a while you'll see a constant stream of armored trucks entering and leaving through those door's on either side.

See that is the perfect disguise, the guy just looks old but he is really a highly trained killer and has a full auto Glock in the bag....

When i was driving home i saw a sign that made me do a double take.
On bright pink paper with black lettering it said
DANGER
HIGH VOLTAGE

It made me think twice, not sure why it was up, there was no line down.

I think map sites like Google Earth and Bing is also a cause for concern. Many of these people driving your road may have cased out the place beforehand online...and may already have an idea of what is on your property. It's scary thinking about it. People don't honor signs and our privacy has been posted online for everybody to see...
