OK what's an X500??

On another note!! Would you believe my shipper called me yesterday to ask a dumb *** question. The dealer didn't put the country of origin on the invoice for shipping to the Virgin Islands, so they called to ask where my John Deere 2720 was built????? I thought everyone in the world knew that Deere was a US product!!! ( no import taxes ) Anyway, they should be unloading today so I will take a quick pass by there to see if it's on the floor, and if so, I may be able to pick it up today!!!!!!!!! Heart is pounding!!! Never thought a 57 year old man can be this excited over a new Christmas toy ha!!

X500 is a lawn tractor from Deere. Deere offers;
* L100 sereis (economy line, some say L's are a psuedo Deere, but hey the put their name on it!)
*X300 series
*X500 series
*X700 series

Dang, I'm gettin' excited for ya! Knowin' how excited I am......I'd say you are age appropriate :tractor://Ooo............................

No ****t~~~ you mean I got away with the import tax?? I thought these tractors were built here in the south somewhere!

Any way!! My 2720 was picked up yesterday with luck!! Bush hog installed and trail run made. Today I spent maybe 4 hours in the seat and my hill top looks like a different place. Grins!!!

Not to worry gentlemen! the pictures were taken before I got mud all over it. Will take a few more with my 318 and post them maybe tomorrow. One question though, My bush hog requires 540 rpm. What would be a good engine RPM to be sure the PTO is getting what it needs? can't find it in the manual anywhere.

CONGRATS Wooden! Pics will be enjoyed by all.

Regarding origin of your tractor, Wescott2746 has a thread titled "Who builds JD Compact Tractors?" that covers this pretty well. I also placed a comment, #23, that outlines most of their models on that thread. Anyway, the entire thread offers lots of fun reading on the subject and I learned something about some of the trasmission origins.

An update on my 2720. Backhoe has arrived at dealer. Dealer says lights will be installed Monday, so I'll probably have tractor sometime next week. AND, Friday morning I pick up my X500!

Backhoe is the 46! I heard recently on here that JD maybe redesigning their hoe frame to accommodate the MMM's bracket with out removing it.
here's link to that.

There is a mark (looks like the PTO shaft) on tachometer, probably around 2800 RPM or so. That indicator means the rear is turning at 540, and the mid at 2100 for your MMM.

Now this is awesome! You can get an answer...on a thread you start...to a question someone else asked...about the very tractor you bought :thumbsup:

Now I know, and I don't even have my tractor yet! I've probably looked at that on the dash and wondered what it was for.

Thanks kennyd

Holy crap!! I have been running it at about 1800 RPM thinking the engine was not really designed to run much higher than that. Strange, I haven't found any information on RPM , Engine break in, Tire pressure, and a few more things , but I will keep looking.

At 2800 RPM that little engine must be screaming. Just seems high to me. Word on engine break in would be appreciated from anyone.

Thanks guys!!

According to the online manual, it's 2600 RPM...not 2800. No worries on the engine, it can take it!

These are not like car engines that spend most of there time below 2000 RPM and only go above for brief periods. My understanding is that these are derated generator engines that are designed to run at 3600 RPM day in and day out. Running them slow might do more harm than good.

Hmm, didn't know about the generator application. I do know the 2720 has the same engine (3TNV88) as the 27D Compact Excavator;
Compare Specifications Setup

And the 2305/2320 (3TNV76) and 2520 (3TNV82) both have engines larger than and in the same engine family, as the 17D Compact Excavator.

Point is....these are rugged engines manufactured for compact construction equipment :drink:

My understanding was the 2720 came with a 31.4 HP Yanmar and that was the selling point that I went with and specified when I ordered the machine. I would be more than disappointed if it came with a 26 HP. Have to look into this some more. I can't seem to find any of this information in the manuals that came with it.

I will post the pics I took as soon as I can get out of the seat long enough do anything else on this hill, Like wash my truck, which haven't been washed in 4 days now!! Oh Lord what is this tractor doing to me!!!! Grins!!! My truck normaly gets washed every morning at around 6:30 AM. Poor baby!!

Dont' worry! The 2720 is a 31.4 HP by Yanmar.

It was the "3TNV88" engine classification that I wanted you to see. HP can vary by application while still being the same engine (block, stroke, compression ratio, bore etc. are commonalities with in an engine model). However, different applications call for different external components....air cleaner, exhaust system, fuel pump and or fuel pump settings may all influence the final HP/Torque ratings of the same engine.

Your truck will adapt and eventually understand that there's a new/younger sibiling also needing attention :laughing:
