Problem is Moss....when common sense says someone 50+ yrs is Way Old enough and they ask for your ID...then that is a foolish Law...and I suffer Fools and foolish laws poorly ! We are over regulating ourselves and turning out educated idiots....I talked to a friend the other day that complained about college grads. she hired to work in her store and they could not make change and I said yes, like in the past before the new computerized registers tell them how much change to give, they don't know how to count out the proper change when someone pays...She said NO ! She said " I mean when the register tells them how much change to give back...they still can't figure it out ! " How does that grab you.?:)

Well said

Ok look at it like this. Your leaving HD and some teenager just bought liguid nail, sniffed it in the parking lot and got high. He leaves the same time you do and hits your car injuring someone. Now if they had ided him and not let him buy it he wouldnt have been there. That alone makes me glad to show my id. This was just an IF not direted at any body.

Does this happen often, has anyone heard about liquid nail abuse before this? If so what is the percentage?

Okay lets say I was a dopper, they ID'ed me, which proved to be a waste of time, I go out sniff up and still cause an accident. What good did ID'ing do?

Chances are with your above example junior probably would have been high on something either way.

For those that keep saying ID'ing a 40+yr old man would help save a kid, if your that worried why not just post the KGB at the parking lot entrance and check everyone. There, problem solved and the police would have something to do besides write little old ladys tickets for crouching to low in their car :p

WoW. Gotta love TBN. 13 page thread cuz 20 20 went on a little rant. Haven't we all done a rant or 2 here? This is why i love this site. Everyone gets to say something. and even if others don't agree, most of the time the disagreements are civil. Hey Ken, when you were back getting your meds, did you get some rubbers? LOL I remember when they were hidden and you had to ask the pharmicist. Old guys rock :D:D:D

Blanket, "We ID everyone" rules prevent the cashier from having to make the "how old is this guy" call and potentially open up the store to liability.
FWIW...
The cases I am familiar with it is the software that controls the cash register...if a "restricted" SKU is entered/scanned a DOB must be entered before the transaction can continue...so the cashier is supposed to check the ID and enter the DOB...if it is obvious the patron is of legal age the cahsier still has to enter a legal DOB to continue...
...in some cases where stores have reward (tracking) cards...it will remember and give the cashier the DOB of the card holder after it has been initially entered...

..

I do wonder how many farmers here are one the goverment dole/farm subsidies...? Because then of course it's okay for big brother to be involved in your life right?

Free market would settle out over time but we do not have that choice without significant changes which won't happen with the big money lobbying... There are more to farm programs than just subsidies. Unfortunately, the programs have been justified for years to save small farms but it is the bigger ones that really pull down the government money. The sugar, tobacco, peanut and especially the corn for ethanol programs are hugh....

We are at the tipping point (just past it actually) and the events the next few months will have a large impact on the next 2 years.

20_20 is right, more folks need to stand up and be heard...

*sigh* I know that, I was using hyperbole to illustrate how absurd his claim was of having his rights violated.

The Government has tried to get me on since 1971 and I am having no part of it. I bought my first farm so I could be self sufficient for my family and I did not want big brother to attach any strings to my land. Ken Sweet

Don't think it was the rant itself, but because the OP was asked for ID, the comment was made that our individual freedoms were eroding.

Perhaps it's just me, but I was asked for my ID a bunch of times when I was in military, and ironically enough, it seems I have more freedom now as a civilian.

EDIT I will admit, the few times I've gotten a seat belt ticket from the State Police, I inform the officer VERY nicely that I find it ironic that I can put my do my duty for our country, but I need the state to fine me for my own safety, but at least it's nice to know that the highway patrol actually has the time to pull me over due to the lack of crime that they don't have to pay attention to. I DO NOT call them glorified traffic cops LOL

Yes 20/20, to some extent I agree with you, but that's the price of progress I suppose.

Yep. The fear of the neighbors telling your folks you were up to no good did tend to be a good deterrent. It still is, if there are parents to tell.

I was quite embarrased one day when I called out two teenagers in my neighborhood for bad behavior*. Told them I'd go straight to their fathers if I saw it again. One kid told me I wouldn't be telling his father. I said-Oh yeah why not? Turns out his father had just died from cancer...
Funny thing is it worked and I never witnessed the problem behavior again...maybe they just needed someone to call them on it.

*They would ride around the neighborhood in a golf cart shouting expletives at barking dogs...go figure.

As for asking for ID...one of my sons, now 24, told me once he used to buy beer starting when he was 15 or 16...he'd just go to different stores and if carded say oops I left my ID in the car...and some of the time the clerk would say never mind and sell it to him anyway. He was a big kid so I could see why they might think he was 21. So if they card everyone, no exceptions, it might help with underage drinking.

I figure they didnt like the dogs barking at them. I can relate. Dogs chasing vehicles is bad ... I imagine the dogs were chasing if not penned.

So no more Leave it to Beaver or Father knows best....all gone...

Oh please such drama! Back then it was Elvis gyrating his hips, and that dam* rock and roll music that was destroying the youth of America, but you know what my parents turned out just fine, and raised two fine kids in the end. It's all a matter of perspective.

Growing up i was never scared of the police...i was, however scared of my parents. I knew if i meesed up bad enough, id get the strap.

Government plays at least part of the role in this as well. Around here, if I were to take a belt to my son or daughter, the school tells them to tell and if they do, the next day I have Child Protective Services showing up on my doorstep. BTDT. It wasn't a belt though, it was a rug burn from my son fighting with his mother.:confused2:

I can't believe this has gone on to over 14 pages of replies! NO I can't believe I entered a comment about this subject.

Yes I am a vet, yes I spent some time in the Pacific Rim, Yes I came back and did not tell too many people I was a Vet, wasn't popular back in the late 60's, Now I have VET Plates on my car. So things have changed for the better as far as I am concerned regarding VETS!

But 9/11 changed everything in this country and if someone wants to see my ID I am more than pleased to show it to them....

The schools can't win. If they react they over react. If they don't raect we have a Columbine. Ever notice how we can all do everyone else's job better than they can?

Rants tend to wander here.
