when a wood chipper is hooked up to the rear PTO, ,how do I keep the tractor from shutting down? as the seat safety switch shuts down the unit?

Try flipping your seat forward then start the engine and engage the PTO.

As I stand up, I grab the seat in the same motion... as I step off the tractor, I tip the seat up and onto the steering wheel....

I might not be that coordinated:D. I get off the tractor, flip the seat up, engage the PTO at/near idle then throttle up to PTO RPM. When finished I reverse the order.

I am sure it is the same on your 7800 but as per my 3400 operator mauual, once off the seat you have like 1 second to flip it forward before it kills the tractor. I do like mentioned above, flip the seat up with one hand while standing up at the same time.

I have never tried starting it with the seat already up, but I suppose that would work also.

this morning I lifted the seat to the steering wheel started the unit let it warm up pushed the clutch with my hand again and engaged the PTO. It seemed to work. Hope there are no safety issues with this method?

There shouldn't be as that is how the manual says to do it. I am sure you have the brakes locked, but on some Kubota models the brakes are kind of weak and you might want to consider chocks if you are on any kind of incline if your model is one of them.

I've pretty much got into the habit of raising the seat up any time I get off the tractor... It's usually in the sun and I hate coming back to a HOT seat... :p Guess I need to get a canopy :)

:ashamed: I have the same problem... I have two things that would work (golf cart top and one of the very large yellow Cat. tops) I just don't have an inch to spare... need to build a larger barn. But thanks for the heads up!!!
