OSHA Requirements
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires
ROPS to be installed on tractors only when such tractors are operated by
employees. Contrary to the opinion of most people, OSHA does not require
manufacturers or dealers to equip tractors with ROPS. OSHA first issued
requirements on 田onstruction tractors in 1972 and required retrofits on all such
tractors manufactured after July 1, 1969. The regulation on agricultural tractors
was issued in 1975 and requires tractors manufactured after October 25, 1976 of
over 20 HP engine used in agriculture to be equipped with a seatbelt and ROPS.
No retrofits are required on tractors manufactured prior to that date.

I'd like to take my folding ROPs off my L2800. Never have used, it, think it's ugly, and just in the way. So how do I do it?

ROPS or no ROPS....choice of owner.... I suppose the cup holder on my fender isn't for beer?

...isn't for beer?
Huh? I don't understand. There's an option? Why, if the sun is shining (or even if it's not) would you put anything else in that hole?

It's like putting yellow mustard in that other big hole marked "Diesel". Does not compute.

First thing I did when I bought my bx1500 was remove the ROPS. It's stored in the garage. I had to install some brackets to hold the signal and flasher lights though, since they were attached to the ROPS.

To me, the height/width profile of a bx is very similar to a L/G tractor, and it feels very stable on slopes to me.

I recall when shopping for the bx, I also looked at the smaller CUT's made by Kubota and Deere. The main reason I wouldn't consider buying them was that I wasn't comfortable with how tall and narrow they were. I wouldn't operate one of them even with a ROPS - they just seem too "tippy" to suit me.

follow these 10 simple steps

1. Make sure tractor is parked on level ground, PTO disengaged, tractor off, keys in your pocket, brake set, and wheels chocked.

2. have someone there to help you, ROPS are heavy. Bend at the knees and not the back.

3. better yet, use a chainhoist, but make sure it has a saftey factor of about 100x's. This would require at least a 5-ton.

4. Make sure the beam that said chainhoist is hooked to is about the size used on bridges that clear span 100+ft.

5. Wear heavily padded gloves, that way when the bolts break loose, you save your knuckles. No sense in getting a recordable insident or lost time accident removing the ROPS.

6. Have a phone handy to call for help incase of injury

7. Once it is removed, lay it flat. Don't stand it up or it might fall over.

8. Put up barriers or cones around it so someone doesn't trip over it.

9. Put warning lables all over stating the dangers and that you removed the rops.

10. Call befor you DIG.

So, um, how long were you in the military? :D

Someone around here runs a BX as a commercial mower, and I've noticed they took the ROPS off. It looks funny without it, but I suppose it was in the way to much. I would never take mine off, but my land isn't very flat and I have a couple of ugly hills.

So as I've decided to sell my FEL and purpose my BX for mowing only, I have been considering dispatching with the ROPS. It is in the way quite often around trees. I have used this machine on my lot for nearly 10 years and aside from the times when I've used the FEL, I have never come close to needing the ROPs. When mowing, it is just not even close to top heavy, and my yard is pretty level (some hill, but not much).

Has anyone removed the ROPs when they were confident that no roll over protection is needed? I would keep it for the day when I sell it, or if I were to get a FEL again someday I suppose.

Thoughts?

You're an adult , do as You please (within the law ) . I don't know why You'd need to ask a forum for a blessing .
