I44 is definitely the prettier route. Gets you close to the Ozarks and through, or at least closer to, more of the Missouri wine country. It should also be easier getting through St. Louis going that way, since there's basically a strip city west of St. Louis along I70. You don't want to hit there at rush hour. The interstates turn into parking lots, and sometimes all the cars are doing 70 mph bumper to bumper, with wannabe NASCAR types changing 4-5 lanes at a time. I really hate driving through there.
