I don't see this as politics, maybe I'm wrong but I think we have reached a point in the United States where we may just go the way of the former Soviet Union. There is such a disparity of views, culture and morals existing and growing exponentially between the states that I see a time in the not to distant future where the country may break apart into several regions with no more federal government. States rights have been so diminished so as to make a joke out of the intent of the constituion and its framers. We well may end up being 50 seperate states who all just sign treaties with each other and share the expense of a joint defense force while each maintaining our own State controlled Armed Forces...Just a thought..
Brin, I have to disagree with you here. I don't think we will be seceding from the Union again for those reasons because the different cultures, views and morals are too well integrated into our society and it is no longer true that one section of the country holds one view and another section another view.
There are opposing views, morals and cultures in each state now which you can readily see in any national election where each party gets a large share of votes in each state with one usually just narrowly beating another. America is not as regionally divided now as it was back in the 1860s.
The division is more clear now in certain parts of each state, such as the largest city in your state versus the rural area, than it is nationally. And the person with the different views may just be your best friend or neighbor.
