Because China needs Oil...they are currently drilling for it just off Cuba's shore not far from us...but it is doubtful the US would allow China to buy BP since it supplies the Pentagon with all of it's oil...but China may buy some of BP's holdings outside the US. Who knows...I sure hope not.

I think it's still pretty much a British company isn't it?
If the cleanup costs and lawsuits get big enough they could try to go bankrupt. I can't see a takeover by anyone though, to messy, to many unknowns cost wise right now.

40% of all BP stock is owned by Americans....many teachers , state pension funds as well as US mutual funds own millions of shares of stock...just so you know..
Yeah, I've read that - it's all over the place but as far as a bail out- I don't think the general US taxpayer would be footing that bill would they? I know how you guys think you will be paying taxes for everything that happens in the world having to do with the Obama Administration but I think that might be a Brit problem if its a Brit corp.
I can see us ending up having to pay for some of the long term cleanup though and that sucks.it,s a big complicated world and I wish I had an answer,but I don,t and doubt if anyone does.We pee-ons can only hope for the best.It,s too bad things have gotten to where they are ,but nothing we can do.Even my grand father used to say,it doesn,t mean a thing to the small guy who,s in charge our lives just don,t change.We,ve worked hard paid our taxes and its always going to be that way.Don,t want to be a downer as I,ve always tried to be up beat but this stuff is getting very old.I do believe in the end we,ll pay at the pump and in taxes and some will build new mansions,been the history through my lifetime.Sorry ,now lets do some humor ok?Dave

It would be a British problem if the oil were all over a British shore. Once BP runs out of cash we are on our own. I dunno if they will go bankrupt, they probably have a pretty good revenue stream. I have not really looked over the situation, I would imagine they carry some type of insurance for this?
Most likely they will stop paying at some point and it will be in the courts forever. Then they will have to pay some lump sum which will likely be a fraction of the true cost of the mess and its impacts.

Yet has any of us given up our thirst for oil because of this disaster? Probably not too many. I haven't. As I said before, I'm surprised gas prices have stayed relatively stable. I would have thought for sure they would have jumped over $3.00 a gallon the day after the rig sank.
