Anyone Watching The Olympics?

It does speak to a uniquely high level of bewilderment, doesn't it?:D

I've loved watching the games in HD. Several of the outdoor events are so clear that it's like sitting on the sidelines without dealing with the crowds or being cold, not to mention having to spend the money to get there.:)

I've also noticed that the direct digital HDTV reception of the OTA broadcast from our local NBC station is breathtaking. The same signal over DishNetwork is not nearly as vivid. We have one HDTV on dish and another with an antenna on the roof. The OTA digital HDTV is absolutely stunning.:)

I agree the OTA signal is far and away better than the Dish "HD" version. I automatically record the 10 o'clock news on Channel 8 Dallas and have to go to 7522 Dish to watch the Olympics in the meantime and by comparison it is terrible. For the most part the DISH HD channels are great, but the network channels are not at all great.

Vancouver is only about 40 miles away from us as the crow flies. As we live on Vancouver Island it takes a bit to travel to Vancouver, having to take the ferry both ways, 2 hours plus could be waiting several hours to get on each way. It costs well over $100.00 for car and couple of people both ways. We have been watching some of the Olympics on our TV in high def so it's just like being there. Fairly passionate about hockey but we are watching some of the other sports, speed skating, curling, skiing, etc. To bad that the cost is looking to be 6-7 BILLION dollars. I see ads saying there are about 2700 athletes. This is getting a little much as the taxpayers of British Columbia have to foot some of this cost.

Did anyone catch who won the womens ski cross last night? I managed to stay up through the semi-finals (9pm) but then they switched to skating before showing the finals and I get up at 4am. It was too bad when the second Canadian got her ski tip caught on the other gals ski. I was hoping there would be two Canadians in the final.

Cyril, here's a link to the news. Australia took the gold and China took silver and bronze.

Congratulations to the Canadian hockey team. It sure looks like a renewed determination has set in. A final between the US and Canada would be super. I know you Canadians are itchin' for a rematch.:D

EDIT: Oh yes! I forgot. Congratulations to the Canadian Bobsled Team winning both gold and silver and the U.S. Team's bronze. It sure seems to me that Canada has come out of its gold medal drought in a big way this year.:)

Love my hockey; it was a great game last night. They had a bit of fire in their belly for sure, Russians probably still not sure what hit them. USA vs. Canada on Sunday would mean a lot of Canadians will be watching it as well as in the USA. This would be the best match up and certainly the TV ratings would go through the roof. Go Canada Go.

I saw last night that Canada has 7 golds. Hurrah for our neighbors to the north!

Is it me or does it seem like the vast majority of the prime time coverage is the women's events. Not complaining as there has been some excellent competition. but just seems like all women. There are some tough girls out there. That ski cross was interesting.

I'm glad Canada is winning their share of medals, haven't really noticed any favoritism. I think they are just motivated by the home crowds enthusiasm.

JB.

I like watching the gals. I can stare all I want and I don't get evil glares from the wife! LOL

On a more serious note...I'm glad to see Canada getting its share of the hometown gold. I think they've been doing a great job!

Did any of you stay up and watch the short track mens' relays last night? Man, 20 guys on the ice in close proximity going fast on 18" long razor blades!!! If that ain't an adrenalin rush, I don't know what is.:D

Sounds like roller derby but I dint watch it either

On the other hand I'd never though it would be cheering on the Canadian curling team.

Looks like the ladies are doing very well for Canada. Between this and last Olympics they have accounted for 70% of Canada's medals. Right now it is the 2nd intermission in the Canada vs. USA Women's Hockey Gold medal game with Canada ahead 2 to 0. At least both teams get a medal.

We've been watching quite a bit of the coverage. My favorite events are downhill and slalom skiing, bobsled, and speed skating. Especially short track.
The coverage has been very good. The only negatives for me besides the commercials are Bob Costas and the woman that hosts the late night coverage. I have to change channels while she's on.

I was over at my Mom's yesterday and she asked what curling was. How do you explain curling to an 84 year old woman that's never seen it? Best I could come up with was a cross between shuffle board and chess........on ice.

Is tomorrow afternoon going to be fun or what? It'll be the Stanley Cup and Super Bowl all rolled into one. Game on!

[/she asked what curling was.QUOTE]

Heck; that's easy. Just some old men gossiping while throwing some rocks around on the ice pond. Sometimes they may even have a nip or two to keep warm.:laughing:

Other fellars seem to get real serious though and complain if you spit on the ice!:(

I have never watched the olympics in the past but this year I'm into them in a big way. Very fun to watch. Can't wait for this aft's game.

And I am secretly in love with the captain of the Canadian women's curling team.;)

Lucky we have had some rain on the west coast in the last couple of days. Wife and I have watched a fair amount of the Olympics. Pretty interesting how they get all the camera shots. Lots of thought and work went into that.
