Yup, that Johny Weir is off an the charts "free spirit" if that's the new PC term for it :) But he seems happy so I can tolerate him.

I don't normally look forward to figure skating, but last night I did want to see the showdown between Plushenko and Lysacek, don't know anything about the others.

Plushenko wasn't very sportsmen like after not winning Gold and had a few snipes at Lysacek when being interviewed later. I don't think he even looked at him during the medal ceremony.

I agree Jim about the pro aspect of hockey in the Olympics. personally I like the flow of women's hockey better. Slovakia Switzerland was a pretty good game.
I'm also not worried about hurting a pro-athlete's feeling. My embarrassment is because the Olympics are a global stage and a showcase of sport and also culture for all involved. I'll be looking for cheering fans to rule the day.

The Russian wasn't a very good loser, not at all. He didn't pitch a real big fit, but he commented that the olympic champion should be able to do a quad, and that they just gave it to the American because he didn't have any medals and the Russian had plenty.

I think Red Buttons had the best evaluation of Plushenko. He said he had incredible athletic skill, but he lacked footwork. Just like the judges awarded the half-pipe snowboarders more points for height, the height alone would not win nor would twists and tricks. It's the whole package. Plushenko should not badmouth another performer. Lysacek had the winning performance for the complete package. In my opinion, the Japanese skaters had the best footwork. I don't hear them complaining. The fact is that Plushenko never thought he would not win. It's a bitter pill for him to swallow and the gent is not handling it very well.

The Swedish skier just ran away with the 18 mile race. He took the lead about halfway and kept it, don't see that work very often. Of course the announcer said he couldn't do it for the last 5 minutes of the race. :D

52* with full sunshine has to be a bit warm for that kind of exercise.

I think you better go back and check that. The 1st Swedish skier had the lead for most of the race while the 2nd Swedish skier held back the pack... UNTIL THE LAST KILOMETER, when the 2nd Swedish skier led the pack to catch up to the fist Swedish skier and passed him and took the gold! The guy that held the lead for most of the race finished 3rd. ;)

What a recovery he made last night to still get bronze! And still two more competitions to go. I wonder if he'll get to 9 medals?

As past president of a curling club I'm following curling quite closely. :) The shots that Kevin Martin can execute sometimes boggle my mind.

I enjoy most of the games, wow first to watch winter olympics in high def.

Yeah I just realized this is the first winter Olympics I've seen in HD. Was wondering why I was enjoying it so much :)

Besides the commercials (about 1 hour out of 3) IMO NBC has been covering it pretty well, at least they stick with 1 event till it's finished, instead of jumping around like in years past.

Yup, there was a storey about Ono, how his father left him in some remote cabin by himself for 8 days when he was 15 years old to decide what he wanted to do with his skating. No wonder he's so motivated, he doesn't want to be sent back to the CABIN :)

Really been enjoying the Short track, it's a fine line between jossling for position but not getting DQed.

Was watching the women last night and China took out an American in one of the QF's and as they were going down and sliding into the pads the Chi girl had her skate right up close to face of the American, didn't touch her but it looked intentional to me. I was so mad I was yelling at the TV

You'll have to watch MSNBC for that. Was watching yesterday a little. For the life of me I can't figure that out :) they stand around and talk about where the stone is gonna end up before they slide it?
And the scoring? was watching one match and there was all kinds of excitement and activity, and just like that it was over, couldn't figure out why or who even won, cause they were congratulating each other???

As far a scoring goes, think horse shoes except only one point per rock. (no three point "ringers")
I do wish they had kept the traditional curling scoreboard instead of the baseball style.

I watched the match between the US women and Russian women. I gotta say that I felt like a pig lookin' at a wristwatch.

Had to think about that "pig lookin' at a wristwatch" statement since I never heard it before. The more I thought about it though, and pictured it in my mind, the funnier it got :)

Was watching a little again yesterday, From what I could tell there is no referee or umpire etc. they have to agree on some of the calls?

Oh, absolutely. The idea is that it is a gentleman's competition. The "thirds" agree on the score each end. Sometimes you have to measure. It gets even more odd from there. Ideally, (in club curling) you are to call fouls on yourself. The offended team has leeway in the penalty in some cases. For instance if a rock is disturbed by a curler, the offended team may be able to put any rocks where they think they should be, had no infraction occurred.
And here is the best one. The winners buy the first round after the game. This is followed by the losers reciprocating and so on.......

I hear you had to watch MSNBC to see the Canada vs USA hockey game too? What a boneheaded move on NBC's part not to put THAT game on the big network.

I am not watching it, but as Czech there are two goals for our hockey team - beat Slovaks and beat Russians. Now to beat USA would be neat, but I can always say after that match my country won - and my country lost:))

It does speak to a uniquely high level of bewilderment, doesn't it?:D

I've loved watching the games in HD. Several of the outdoor events are so clear that it's like sitting on the sidelines without dealing with the crowds or being cold, not to mention having to spend the money to get there.:)

I've also noticed that the direct digital HDTV reception of the OTA broadcast from our local NBC station is breathtaking. The same signal over DishNetwork is not nearly as vivid. We have one HDTV on dish and another with an antenna on the roof. The OTA digital HDTV is absolutely stunning.:)

I think our home national network that is doing the Olympic coverage (CTV) is doing a terrific job too. And you're right, HDTV is sure THE way to watch!
