4110 Range shifter broke

My 4110 range shifter broke off inside the tranfer case. Dealer says he will have to split the tractor. 35 hours of labor at 70 bucks an hour...OUCH...Does this sound right

I have NEVER heard of that problem before on a 4110 machine...the 4x00 had some problems with it though...

Labor estimate sounds about right though for a split.

I have a 4115 and just for knowledge or prevention what caused that?

Now would be a good time to buy the repair manual. For $2500 one can do alot of fixing. It can't be that complicated.
Can't imagine how this happened. From shifting mine every time I start it to get the glow plugs to work my shifter feels pretty sloopy.. Must have been hooked on something to break it.

For this part to break off in the transfer case it must have been a defective part I would think. I hope someone with more knowledge will chime in. Larry

How does this pricing sound?
What should I expect for trade?

My 4110 has 388 hours on it. I asked my dealer what could have caused this premature failure, but he did not have an answer.

In your original post, you mentioned 35 hours at $70. That should have come to $2450. How did it go to $1750? Did they give you a discount?

Bent PTO shaft? WOW Seems there may be more to this story than what you have told us...

How did the PTO shaft get bent? Possibly the driveshaft on one of your implements is to long...

So did they repair the shifter but not the PTO shaft? So it can happen again?

That would completely fit my impression of SYTT (the local JD dealer). Need to make sure you have to come back after all....

Went to Deere Country in Lancaster. They repaired everything. Very good staff and my repair was less than their estimate!!

Kennyd The shaft was slightly bent when i purchased it..previous owner with a seeder attachment that was to large for the tractor
