O.K. Take a bowl of vanilla ice cream, crush up some Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies over it and drizzle a shot of Creme de menthe over it..... :D

You could put diesel on a bowl of ice cream and thin mints and I'd still eat it!

Back when I dated my wife I would tank up on beer and she would drink Lambrusco. I acquired a taste for it and we still have it with Italian food to this day... 30 years later! I really like the tasted of it chilled.

It's good stuff. It was popular briefly in the US back in the 70's with Riunite and then the trend faded but its coming back now.

I've never traveled much but took the family to Italy's food belt (Parma, Modena, Bologna) last spring. The first night there we stopped into a corner market and picked up a few things for dinner. They speak very little English in Parma but I asked the clerk for 'vino rosso economico'. He asked "con gas?" which means with bubbles? At first I said no because I knew nothing about wine with bubbles and he looked a little disappointed and handed me a red of some sort but then he showed me a bottle of Lambrusco and indicated that it was made nearby and was what they drank. He seemed pleased when I went with the Lambrusco. Been hooked ever since.

And I also like it chilled.

Bird: I've found that Crown Royal ain't bad in coke or 7-up, but I'd rather have Scotch.

I heard that the only reason for Crown Royal to exist was to turn Coke into an alcoholic beverage.

By coincidence my wife got 2 boxes of Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies today as she always does.:D She likes mint cookies, candy, etc. However, I just do not care for any kind of mint. It's not bad, but it's not good enough for me to want any either.:)

I'd rather have my ice cream made into a Golden Cadillac; i.e., 1 part Galliano, 2 parts Creme de cacao, and 5 parts vanilla ice cream in a blender. It's been a lot of years since I had one.

N80,

My favorite is Laphroag. Single Malt. Can't get it here anymore so I usually have friends bring it in when traveling. It is 'stinky' scotch. Very dark and 'peaty'. Does not burn. I usually drink this one neat. My 'house' scotch is a blend... called Famous Gross. This I take with ice and a bit of well water. Lagavulin and Oban are great too.

A cut crystal glass helps too.

Cheers.

Sounds like my kinda meal! (And did you know it is very easy to make ricotta at home?)

My sister-in-law is a chef and she has been trying to get me to go to Charlotte with her to Trader Joes. I may have to go and look into that wine. She says they have great prices on wine.

Every time we have a little more milk than we can use we make a batch of ricotta, your right not very hard at all.
Trader Joes does have really good prices on wine. Another one is Two Buck Chuck(at least its $2 here in Cal, I think my daughter pays $3 back in Chicago). It aint "great" wine but it is good wine, and if it helps you have a glass of wine a day.... Well what could be wrong with that?

Forgot, If you do go to Trader Joes, I'll just tell you the only single malt that I ever was disappointed in came from there. It was $18 a bottle, so it was inexpensive for single malt, but to me it tasted more like blended. Can't remember the name, but I think they only carry one.

A while back I was introduced to a very nice scotch called Grand McNich.
The clerk said that it was (i think) Chivas Regal without the regal price.
Not exactly a 12 year single malt, but very smoothe not in the least harsh.
It is my 'daily drinker', so to speak, a jigger or two over a couple or three ice cubes in a fine crystal tumbler.
The crystal glass makes it taste just so much better!

I've never acquired the taste for Scotch, but this sumer I did some extensive research into Whiskey when I was in Ireland. I had a great uncle who had a shot of Whiskey each night. He lived to 95. Maybee when I stop running fire calls at night I should investigate this family tradition...

Pete

Same family tradition as mine but you may have left it too late. I have been reliably informed that it takes about 40 years to build up in the system to receive the full medicinal benefits.

Laphroag and the other island peaty whiskeys tend to give me indigestion these days so I prefer the middle of the road single malts as my sipping whisky. MacAllan 12 year old is my favorite.

I lived in Italy for two years while in the Navy.
I enjoyed the local wines and they surely do have a kick to them! A meal of real spaghetti with a bottle of the local wine (at a rural trattoria (not sure I spelled that correctly)) is a true treat...and you won't be going away hungry!!

Many years ago, my old boss and I had to do some traveling together so when we ate dinner in a place that had a bar, we'd ask the waiter or waitress to ask the bartender how he or she made a Golden Cadillac. I guess some of the bartenders' books called for ice and cream, so we'd pass. It had to be made with vanilla ice cream for us to drink it. It's a right tasty dessert.:D

Whiskey (of any type) is great with equal parts cold water. Most testers mix in a little water to bring out the nose and finish. The only mix I have really enjoyed with scotch is coconut water -- course that scotch was free and I was in Trinidad at the time:eek:
Chivas to my taste is probably the worst scotch on the market but has had a great marketing campaign:rolleyes:
If you want a truly unique scotch try Ardbeg
Bottom line is drink it the way you like it ---JMHO
