Front-End Loader Digging techniques with FEL

/ Digging techniques with FEL #23
I have done a lot of digging with a FEL. What I use is my Loader Buddy. Its solid tines break up hard packed dirt. I have created swales by driving backwards pulling the bucket with the tines down and rolled all the way forward. This action loosens and breaks up the soil, easy then to drive forward and remove the loose material and continue to the depth you desire.
Having the tines located between the loader arms saves on tweaking your loader when snagging something with them.:)

Back dragging with the curl cylinders fully extended is a good way to break or bend them.

I nearly killed myself with the jack hammer. Must be a art to those things.

I ran a 90lb JH for a couple years. I only weighed a buck 50 or so. The only art to it is make it work for you. Don't try to man handle those things, just keep it standing up straight and don't grip the handles too tight.

That bucket buddy looks like it could be a bucket bender if you aren't careful. Sort of reminds me of Grandma with one tooth gnawing on a corn cob:D

Check out the "Po' boy backhoe" in the build it yourself forum. Sorry I don't know how to add links.

I must have missed something. What is a "loader buddy"?
"Loader Buddy" is a versatile uniquely designed bucket of my own design. It is currently available in a 4' version for a Kubota LA402 loader. A 5' quiktach
version is in the works and hopefully will be ready by spring. The design is a result of 10 years of testing. I wanted a tool for my loader and not just a bucket. Grapples are nice but more specific use. What I found is that I did not want to take my bucket off, even though I have a grapple and a 6' HD bucket with a fancy cutting edge. Go to mytractortools.com
to see more photos and descriptions. Thank you for your curiosity!!

That is a very nice and useful looking bucket! BUT as AchingBack pointed out if you back drag with the curl cylinders extended way out it puts alot of stress on them. This has been disscussed many times on TBN, do a search and you will find the details.
