Hi,

Well after a marathon session of waiting, countless emails and telephone calls, my new machine was delivered just in time for Christmas. To condense the story, I signed the sales order on June 26th and the machine was delivered on Dec 23. There seemed to be some disparities with the local salesman who was "released" from employment during the process.

Essentially I had ordered a CT230 with "deluxe package" with loaded rears, FEL with 60" bucket, cutting edge, PHD with at 15" auger.

Delivered was a CT230 "standard package" (changed with the model year), 1 set of rear remotes installed, FEL with a 68" bucket. front brush guard and three other boxes of stuff.

Upon opening the boxes, it was revealed that the mid-PTO kit and the second set of rear remotes were not installed.

A quick inspection found some rusted metal on the frame (where the paint had been knocked off). The bucket seemed to be much stouter than the one I remembered in the dealership. I wondering if that is a change for the new model year. It's branded as Bobcat on the metal stamping.

The CA forks were purchased from Everything Attachments, and I was quite impressed with their light weight and quality.

After a few hours of playing around it was discovered that the FEL hydraulic lines can get caught up in the right front wheel. It appears that there may be a captivating device missing allowing the hoses to swing free just forward of the quick connects along the bottom frame rail. I installed a bungee cord there as a temporary measure. I was hoping that someone might me able to comment on how the hydraulic lines are run on their machine.

An hour or so was spent running the Goosen Chipper shredder I bought used. Man that thing is a beast. Its scary powerful. I don't want to be caught holding a stick when that thing sucks it in. For the shredding bit I will be using a pitch fork to toss the sticks into the hopper.

The front end loader was tested to the limit. Using wet pressure treated 2x12 12's, 36 is too much. I backed it off to 24 and traveled with the load on the up hill side. I must say that with the rears loaded, the machine is well matched with the 7TL FEL. At the loader max lift weight, I could not get the back wheels to come off of the ground unless they were going uphill slightly. As you can see the bags of portland cement (15 #93 pound bags) plus 50# of nails and 210 pounds for the forks, the FEL lives up to its rated lift capacity (1655# of load in picture). Of course how the load is stacked plays into the lift capacity. It would not pick up the same load further out on the forks. The roll back force does not seem to be as good as the lift capacity. IE It could lift the load but not roll it back. I must say that I have no plans to routinely haul this much load.

A call to the dealership and they promised that once the rest of my accessories arrive they will send someone out to deliver them, install the mid PTO and the rear remote kit and give me a couple of cans of the grey/black spray paint and a spare key.

How has everyone insured their machines? I'm told by (State Farm) my insurance agent that they will not sell a policy for it since I'm not actually using it for "farming" or a business.

Has anyone installed a winch (like what you would see on a Jeep) to the frame of their machine? I have some very steep hills in the yard and some places to get to that I know the tractor should not go unassisted. I happen to have a 17500lb 12V receiver mounted winch I was considering using to assist up some steep 30-45 degree hills. I was thinking of putting a square tube receiver under the front frame member just below the hood. I don't think the FEL could handle pulling the tractor along so I ruled out mounting it to the FEL bucket or forks.

I installed a 2" step bumper receiver hitch to the bucket, and I have a 2" reciever hitch/drawbar on the 3ph, which I use to attach my 2" barmounted HF winch.

Hi Archerm3,

Have you pulled anything "serious" with it? I'd hate to torque / twist the FEL or worse rip it off the machine and go sliding down the hill backwards... The winch I'm looking to mount is a beast.... 7/8" cable... I used it to pull a stuck skidsteer (8k lbs) up a 45 degree slope and it did not even slow down.

I also have the rear 3ph adapter, but would prefer to keep the rear tires down hill since they are loaded. Essentially the winch will be pulling the tractor up the hill. I can see advantages of having it mounted to the bucket (FEL) but first want to ensure nothing goes snap...

Thanks,

Steve

Hi,

Congrats on the new tractor!

A pre-cautionary note. While the loaded rears are great.......all the FEL weight is teeter-tottering on the front axle. Rear 3 point ballast puts the counter weight off the rear of the tractor thus spreading the load across the frame of the tractor and the much larger rear axle.

Good luck and enjoy the tractor!

Nice tractor. I'm beginning to price/look at several myself in this range. Does it still take that long from order to delivery?

No... my experience is abnormal. Hence the "release" of the salesman. He never placed the order with the factory. My order did not hit the books until late August early September. It was particularly long in my case since there were special incentives on C230's back in June. Bobcat promptly sold out of inventory and the C230's were on back-order from Korea. In the interim Bobcat closed one of it's final assembly plants in North? Dakota and there was a workers strike in the remaining plant. So my guess is that even if the dealer does not have a machine in stock it would probably take 6 weeks max to get one. Mine was in production the weeks of Nov 15 and Nov 22 and was delivered to the dealer December 11th. Be advised the Bobcat dealers are a bit green with this product. In my case there was no Kioti dealer and Bobcat was practically giving them away at the time for cash buyers. (Free FEL and $3500 rebate). Price being the same between Kioti and Bobcat, I would select the dealer first, then the machine.

All things considered I'm quite happy with the new machine so far.

SS....

On the insurance matter, I had the same conversation and as long as it is used on my property, it is covered under the "personal property" coverage limit on my homeowners policy. If I were to take it off my property.....no coverage. That is my case in Ohio....did you get similar information w/ your agent for CA?

If you plan to move it around, take it to other family member's homes to let them use it, etc......I would make sure you know what is and is not covered....know your risk before you take it. Good luck and great looking machine enjoy the new year w/ it!

Thanks. I will ask my agent to research it again. They have never been asked about a tractor before. The agent is based out of San Diego, where there really is not much demand for that sort of thing. He basically told me to go online and find insurance. Not very re-assuring since I have everything else with them (State Farm).

The farthest it will go from my property is 1.5 miles. The bad news is that is on a public right of way that is private maintenance (read.. I maintain the road at my expense if I want to use it because no one else works on it). As such some of the neighbors use it as well (roughly 40 households). My biggest concern is the next door neighbor who drives her Prius about 40MPH (posted at 10 MPH) and does not wait for you to see her. I had a close call with her already in the skidsteer. She decided to zip by while I was backing up... Did not even see her until she was past me. It was close... She would have been pushed right off the edge of at 150' embankment.

Thanks,

Steve

I am glad BW came through, Steve.

Did you have them test and set the system hyd pressure? So far one other
TBN member reports 2800, and I had 3000psi.

BTW, Don is correct, you do need a counter-weight on the three pt to
take some weight off the front axles when lifting such large loads.

Looks great!
