If you see my thread in the safety section, I used it to pull my truck out of a snowdrift after it rolled. I set the bucket tip down into a cornfield, lowered the back blade, and tried a single line pull of the 8000lb winch and stalled the winch motor, then I snatched blocked it back around to the bucket, and pulled it out, no problems on the loader frame, but surely that has to do with having the bucket planted down. I raised the front wheels off the ground to make sure I had the max weight on the bucket. I would feel fine pulling the tractor up a hill straight with the loader frame and winch on the bucket. YRMV.

Also, I check my loader hoses, they run over the top of the loader mount instead of under by the jhook as showed in your and rusgeek's photos.

Hi Archem3,

I'm thinking of doing sort of the opposite of what you did when you pulled your truck out. You essentially used the blade and FEL as an anchor to pull against. I'm thinking of pulling the tractor out when it gets stuck / can't make it up a muddy slope. Very similar to a bumper mount on a Jeep. I'm probably being too cautious about mounting it on the FEL. Maybe I will put in two mounts or use a chain between the bucket and the frame to redistribute the force created by the winch. Although two mounts seems feasible too, one on the bucket and one on the frame. The big disadvantage of the frame mount is that it will interfere with the FEL. So if it was to be used that way then the bucket would need to be raised or left behind and pulled up the hill later with the winch.

Attached is are a few pics of the winch I will be using. It's sitting next to a quickspade combo for reference. You can see it's mounted on a receiver type mount.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Gumshu,

They delivered using FedEx National LTL Freight. Delivery was to the local FedEx National office (in my case that was near San Jose Airport). I think the closest location to you would be SLO.

FedEx Freight | Locations

It only took three days from North Carolina.

The are very lightweight 210 lbs... and seem to be well suited to the machine.

Steve
Thanks Steve

ss - that definitely explains your problem! I would give you dealer a call, or send them an email with a picture of what you're talking about. It's easy enough to make yourself a cable strap or J-hook to mount on that loader tower, but it really is their responsibility to come up with that part for you.

Do yourself a favor like I did, and get that polypropelene/kevlar/spectra whatever, synthetic winch line rope...cut probably 50 lbs (guessing?) from the weight of maneuvering the winch around and into receivers. No more broken strand punctures to the hands.

I would suppose there should be plenty of room up underneath the grill guard for a reciever and winch for your frame mount.

Done. When they come out to deliver the rest of my order (PHD and 15" bit, cutting edge) and install the mid PTO and 2nd rear remote kit they will bring the J-hook and install it.

Thanks everyone for pointing out the precise issue. I'm not confident that the dealer would know what was missing since their experience with tractors is limited at best.

It's my hope not to require a winch too often (so as to benefit from the line change). I will always use snatch blocks, nylon straps, a winch bag and gloves when operating the winch.. The winch is massive, a ball park guess is that its roughly 30" wide without the mount. Wider than the space between the FEL loader arms? So it will not fit below the grill guard without protruding forward and requiring the FEL to be raised. The more I consider it the better bucket mount seems with a length of chain going between the frame and the winch mount.

Thanks,

Steve
