Re-sizing a Compact tractor Floor boards size

I like the compact size of our cut tractors, although I have found 1 area where it could stand to be a bit larger.... the foot rest/floor boards area,
the Jap's must have very small feet:p and build them to their standards,
But with me have 13 EEE I found it very uncomfortable trying to step on and off of and was very limited with moving my feet about, of course for the most part I rest on the heals being ready to brake or clutch, But when being out in open Field and simply trying to relax it feels like sticking my feet in the shoe box themselves,......... so I did something about the ones on my tractor, I notice there were more space all away around especially at the rear, was 2 1/2 gap..... anyway here are a couple picture of using diamond sheet metal and cut bending it to have larger floor boards, the only thing I didn't bother to do was use the stupid little studs and springs with clips that held them down, I simply used carriage bolts nuts & washers, couldn't seethe pointin the spring deals, what! floating footboards
BTW anyone with small feet need a good set of used but straight foot boards? only pay shipping :D

I too find it rather cramped on my Yanmar but being only 14 and always changing gears, I can live with it for a while.

i am no hulking bloke by any standard but find the 1500 OK. if i were any bigger or the tractor smaller i might have a problem. the only thing i find annoying is the shifter, its always in the way when i want to get off. can the shifter be spun around so it leans back when its in neutral? i was going to unbolt it and try but dont want to possibly drop something in the trans.

You can turn the shift lever around but that would be darned dangerous if you hit a bump!

If you really want to do this, lift the rubber boot and drive the rollpin out, turn the lever, and shove the pin back in. I'm not sure there is enough room to engage first and third gears.

i was wondering about this- i guess i can try it if not get the gas axe out and warm it a little and re-position it.

hi Neat 1500,

I removed the 4 bolts, turned it around 180 degrees and bolted it back tight.

No problems for me that way and yes it is much easier to mount and dismount the tractor now. see attached pix. Also notice I moved the seat back a few inches.

yes the shifter was a bit in the way at first, but rather then alter the shifter I decided to fab up an extension to set the seat back 3" plus it help to give more leg room and now can clear the shifter when stepping in, although was still a problem trying to situate my right foot when exiting back off so that I could step off forward,
I can only get on & off from the left side, the FEL control is blocking the right side, so I weld a small step onto the left side of the loader mount bracket about 3" lower than the foot boards, now i have a place to put my right foot while getting off, as when before I had to try and twist around to even back off , now with the combination of the larger foot boards, the seat setting back 3" further, and the added step, I can now bring my right leg/foot over the shifter and simply step down to the added step bring my left foot on down to the ground,........................
when I had the smaller kubota equal to the size of the YM 1500 it was easy to swing the right leg over the steering wheel and hood then step onto the front left tire and then onto the ground with left foot...;) funny thing is the person i sold the ol-Kubota to was at least 285lbs very large around the waist
and had to force his way between the steering wheel and seat, but some how he still managed to steer it, the tractor full loaded with just him on it :D when he finally got seated and situated he made a comment,
"perfect fit" who am I tel tell him differently :D

what are other things ya'll have done to re-size your tractors?

Ditto on moving the seat back. One of the first things I altered. Nice Job on the foot Rests DND. I also have problems if I'm wearing boots. Not much room to move thats for sure:rolleyes:

Have you guys ever look at a 2000B model it has a much larger floor board. I sell every one I can get fast, just for that reason and I put a seat riser to raise the seat about two inches. You are right these tractor was built for the smaller Japanies people.

I'll Agree with that to, also found that they are a little to laid back for me. So on the cheap and easy you can see all I did was hit the Hardware store and put some 1.1/2 inch PVC. freeze plugs on the seat rests they are right at 2" perfect for me. I know it's showing again:eek:
