All of a sudden I can't get into gear, I have checked the hydraulic fluid, adjusted the clutch lever (because there was just no pedal), nothing works. I fear that I may need to replace the clutch, but I am not well versed in double clutch assemblies. If it is the clutch, do I change both, or just the one that needs to be changed? This is a job that I have to do myself, can't afford shop rates...any one interested on telling this idiot what to do?

I think you have a better chance of getting help if you at least mention the make and model of tractor.
Better yet if you post in the particular brand name's forum.

"just no pedal" and your mention of double clutch systems suggests to me that it is more likely a linkage and control problem than a clutch wear issue.

Do you have power to the PTO ?
On a dual (or 2 stage) clutch system the PTO engages before the main transmission clutch engages to move the tractor forwards/backwards.
If there is no PTO power my bet would be control linkage, if you have pto power there could be an adjustment problem or main clutch wear (or burn).

If/when it comes down to it.... replacing both the PTO and main clutch would depend on your usage, e.g. if you have only ever used this tractor for non-PTO work then it probably wouldn't make much sense to replace the PTO clutch.

Level of difficulty to do the work ?
Depends on your skills and tools, but do know ahead of time that a main clutch job requires splitting the tractor. You will at least need enough flat smooth hard floor space and some form of rolling jacks or dollies to be able to roll one half away from the other. Plus a decent mechanic's tool set, socket wrenches, etc.

So; make, model, hours and usage would be useful info to help us to help you (-:

Can you shift gears with the tractor turned off? Or are you talking about grinding gears? Do you have a shop to work in? If clutch needs replacing you're probably looking at splitting the tractor. Lots of heavy metal to move around.
