How do you like your L3400? Looking at buying one this week. Supposed to take a test drive Monday. I have used/driven a Kubota TLB and liked it. I know the L3400 is a CUT but it seems to fit my needs perfectly. What kind of prices are the L3400's going for? I got a quote for 18.5.

BTW: That is with a loader and hydro, but R1's. Still trying to decide on R1s vs. R4's. Thanks for your replies.

230 hrs on my l3400 with no major issues. I paid 17.2k for hst/loader in '07.

As for r1's or r4's...depends on the terrain you're working on.

I think R4 is a good all purpose tire. Depends what you're doing. Just make sure you get the skid steer quick attach for the loader.

I bought my latest "my third" kubota this year, a 2008 l3400 hst with a loader and r-4 tires,
got it from carver equipment delivered to my door " massachusetts" with 20 hours on it for $15,500.00
Very nice people to work with.
Up here the same machine, in the same low hour used condition was around $19,000.00.
New the prices quoted were all around $22,000.00

I would get the R-4 tires you might also price shop in your area.

L3400 is definitely an Ag tractor, not good for earthmoving and plowing due to light weight and weak loader.

Decent power, and a good tractor for mowing, moving manure, Light box blading, etc.

Load the rear tires and space them apart as far as possible, L3400 is really scary on hills.

No hills here in S. Texas, just straight, flat, and right now muddy ground. I am thinking that the R4's will do a good enough job for me for most things I do, especially with 4WD. The R4's are wider, which means they won't sink as bad. Yes, the R1's have better traction, but I don't plan on intentionally going into mud. It is for mostly doing light work around the barn.



L3400 is definitely an Ag tractor, not good for earthmoving and plowing due to light weight and weak loader.

Decent power, and a good tractor for mowing, moving manure, Light box blading, etc.

Load the rear tires and space them apart as far as possible, L3400 is really scary on hills.

Just wanted to update this post:

Bought the L3400 with HST, FEL, and R-1 tires for $18K about 1.5 weeks ago. Have used the tractor for about 10 hours and I am very pleased. I am very glad I decided to get the R-1's. They have been excellent for what I needed (ag use in varying terrain). Put her in low and watch out, she will move some serious material. I do not agree that the loader is weak. I have moved some sizeable trees etc and have been very pleased. I pushed a large brush pile and pulled my disc very easily.

I highly recommend getting 4WD as I am able to do much more work traction wise than our old Ford 1910 2WD with loaded tires. I will post up if I encounter any isses etc. Also, yes the 3-pt is jerky. More of an annoyance than anything.

$18K is a good price. My boss bought the same tractor with a 16" BH and R-4s for $24K out the door last week.

Congrats on the new purchase! The R1's do have great traction but sure can tear up a finished yard. Enjoy!

Oh yes, they do tear up the "yard". Luckily I bought it for ag and they work great in the "sticks"! They dang near till it up all by themselves!

I agree about the loader, I have 30 hours on my L3400 w/ loaded R-4's, 66" bucket Q/A, HST, 2009 from Carver Equipment. $18,400.00 Good luck with your machine. I love mine!!! Hey L.B. let me see you do this!!!!:)

I had a L3400 for many years and it is a work horse. It had all the power to do what I needed and more.

Mine had the R4's and they worked out great for my needs.

I bought it, worked it hard and sold it for what I paid for it many years later.

I have also been considering the L3400 lately, (again). I stopped by a dealer just today to see one and get a feel for the size. (didn't drive it though).
One of the reasons I previously stopped considering the L3400 was all the posts about the 3-pt hitch (and the pto/cable).
I have read a number of posts (some from dealers) that say the 3-pt problem has long been resolved.
What you say about it being jerky does not sound good.
From the one you just bought, it seems that maybe the 3-pt hitch problem hasn't been resolved after all.

Can anyone shed some light on this ?

Arky, Here is what I found about the L3400 3-pt hitch. When I have an implement on the ground and move the lever from the down position to the full up position in one continuos movement it comes up real smooth. The same is true in reverse -full up to full down. If you move the lever slow to various positions it does a fine job. If you move the lever somewhat fast to different positions then it can become jerky - still not bad. Also I have found if the tactor is not warmed up and you try to get in a hurry it can become somewhat jerky. What I am trying to say is it is not enough for me to worry about. My L3400 is a 2009 model and that may have something to do with it.
If you are worried about it go to a dealer and try it out - before I bought mine I went to my local dealer and "played" with it several times to ease my mind! I love my L3400!!!! Hope this helps!:D

I somewhat agree with what the previous poster said. If you move the 3-pt from the down position to the up position without stopping it will not jerk. It will move in a smooth motion all the way up. If you move it several inches it will not jerk. If you move it down at any speed or increment it will not jerk. If you try to move it up a little bitty bit it jerks or pops up in a very ragged motion. AKA if you are trying to attach an implement and trying to get the 3-pt in place it pops or jerks in those small movements. It does it either with or without a heavy load.

The one I test drove at the dealer did not have any load on the 3-pt and I tested it and it was smooth. Mine actually jerks with no load on it and the speed turned all the way down.

At this point I only consider it an annoyance more than a problem. It's one of those things that I knew about before buying the tractor but it was not a deal-breaker. I wish Kubota could get this right, and hopfully in time the problem will either go away due to break-in or I can make an adjustment to fix it.

I consider the rest of the tractor to be a helluva machine and a good value. I would not let this pecularity from stopping you from buying one. As I said, it does not affect my operation of the machine except when I am trying to get the attachements on and trying to make small adjustments. I made sure to point out to the dealer when I took delivery of the machine that the 3-pt was jerky in case I want to pester them to look at it however.

Purchased a new L3400 in January. No regrets. Good tractor. The 3 point should be smoother but I'm living with it and it really hasn't been a problem.

I'm not sure what concerns are with newer 3ph being "jerky"... but if I didn't get my 2005 valves upgraded, I would have sold the tractor since it would have been of little use to me. I seriously wonder if the 2009 is as jerky as my 2005... which violently shook the whole tractor. If you are building or grading a road with a box blade or lifting a heavy object with a boom pole... you need to seriously TRY THE TRACTOR OUT BEFORE BUYING IT... not just drive it around the parking lot.
