Has anyone here tried using TIG with S-7 (high shock) drill rod as a filler to hardface FEL buckets, BH teeth, etc.? I've read elsewhere on the web where someone used S-7 drill rod on an anvil and wondered if it would work for our stuff. Is there something better for hardfacing when using TIG?

Skyco, you're correct, it's mostly just a cost and waste thing; I was thinking I just don't need (a minimum order of) 10 pounds of big $$$ filler if I can get away with five pieces of 1/16" x36" drill rod for $15. I'm not looking to make the BH teeth on my BX24 last forever, but just make them last a bit longer by spending an hour or so after sundown behind my TIG torch, something I must say that I rather enjoy. I bet for the cost of 10# of that stuff, I could replace my BH teeth four or five times. However, I think I will check into the cost of that stuff....you just never know. Thanks!

I have never used hardfacing rod, though I have seen it for sale for a
stick welder, and they are pricey. Why not take an old dull drill bit and
try it with your TIG setup? If it works, you answered your question. Either
way, we will all have learned something.
