Kubota B7800 - also have an old IH
Howdy Y'all,

My B7800 lost power and died completely after a minute - won't even try to turn over. Air filter is clean and fuel filter is pretty new and looks clean (20 hours or so.) I'm in the middle of putting in crops and need to get up and running right away since I'm already running behind. Any help would be appreciated.

is there anything in your fuel tank?
have you done any work on it before it died

You may be dealing with two issues... the "won't turn over" may be a safety switch issue (verify that PTO is off, etc). The died after a rough minute is most likely a fuel issue. Take the fuel filter apart and dump the bowl. Hold the bowl up tight to the assembly and verify that it refills quickly (like 2 seconds). Make sure the filter looks good.

Well if it "won't try to turn over", the motor may be seized up. Loss of power in the last few moments of its life is also a seizing prelude. Clarify whether it cranks or not, have lights, or not, clicks, or not, moves in neutral, or not. A fuel issue would only apply if its turns over an won't fire....

I'd check the dipstick, first, then the radiator.

Fuel is full and I have dash lights, PTO is off. I was working for about an hours before it died. I don't have a volt meter but the battery seems fine - no click when I turn the key but a slight dimming of the glow plug light. I'll run out and see if the fuel filter refills quickly, didn't try that yet.

I pulled the fuel filter, dumped it and put it back on - filled back up very fast.

Oil is full and clean, radiator's full and it wasn't running hot - hydraulic fluid is full. It's only about twenty hours since a full servicing with all fluids, filters etc and this machine only has 172 hours total. Lights work and it moves in neutral.

Here's a possible scenario...Look to the HST pedal as the culprit. There is a safety switch there. The B7800 is notorious for this issue. It oftentimes fails to return to the neutral position and the tractor sees this as a (safe) failure in the off position. Rock the pedal either with your foot or by hand to find the neutral position of the safety switch. Patience, as a tiny bit of movement or a lot of movement can return it to it's required position. Press it several times front and/or rear, allowing it to find the sweet spot. It can take a few tries (or more).

However when you turn the switch to the on position, you should hear the infamous click. Then nothing happens (?), thus this information.

I wish Kubota had this issue up their bota, them knowing this is an issue and they continue to ignore a service notice or bulletin < spit >.

Good luck and report back please.
