Aha! Eureka! Very strange but it started up in neutral after futzing with the pedals a bit and it seems to be running fine! THANK YOU! I've never heard of this problem before but this is my first Kubota.:D

The thing I don't understand is how did it cause the power loss and why did it keep running for a minute or so after the initial loss? This is confusing but as long as there is a work around I can deal with it. I was afraid I was going to have to pay a mechanic $100 an hour to stand around scratching his head.

I would guess you had 2 problems. The first may have been some water or somthing in the fuel causing it to die. The switch on the hydro is a seperate issue.

Rumor has it that greasing the specific zerk will resolve the issue. Not so for me. Have it replaced (or replace it yourself) and be done with it.

Glad you got it up and running...

One more thing Mr. First-Kubota Owner (spoken in a kind way), when you go to do the 50 hour service, the strainer bolt head is 26mm. Just sayin'. Be prepared and you can do the service yourself for little of nothing and in about 2 hours if all of the tools and material are ready. I did a full recommended service for a material cost of $207.00 US. Dooley's Tractor in Athens, TN hooked me up with one phone call.

Messisk's web site has a nice tutorial on the service for the B7800 model. A far cry better than the service manual. Print it for reference and have at it.

Thanks for that link. The thing is still being persnickity - I used it for about 15 minutes and then it did the same thing. It worked fine until it warmed up completely (not overheating). If I shift into neutral it doesn't die and starts running smooth again after a few seconds, then I shift into gear, try to move and it starts to lose power and choke after a few more seconds - it won't go more than five or ten yards before I have to shift back to N.

Must you truly shift to neutral in order to stop it from stalling? Or simply release the HST pedal?

It doesn't seem to get better until I put it in neutral. I tried simply stopping the tractor and the engine continued to choke down until I hit N.

I'd look carefully at the seat safety switch. It is in play when tractor is in any of the drive range and the HST pedal is not perfectly centered, but is removed from play when tractor is in neutral. I think the switch is making/breaking quickly and causing tractor to try and die. Just a thought...especially true if it runs normally in neutral.

A buddy of mine who has owned a lot of Kubotas said the same thing - he told me to ditch the switch because they always go out and cause trouble. He also said a lot of Kubotas have two fuel filters, one that catches the big stuff and the one that is visible. I don't know if that's true of the B7800 but that wouldn't effect it if it comes back to life in neutral.
