The time for an engine oil change has come, and when I look in the manual I find the attached, highly educational diagram.

It is easy to understand, except for the fact that there are no numbers on the thermometer in the diagram.

Does anyone know either where the numbers are supposed to be on the diagram, or even what the operating range of 15W-40 or 5W-30 is in my machine?

Dave, for summer use use the 15/40 or a straight 30 is my prefered oil for your 110. If you were using it for snow removal the 5-30 or 10 weigh would be the best.

I'll be.. I thought for a moment that you were given a "defective" manual by your dealer! Only to discover that I have the same manual...

They blacked out the temps on the thermometer scale!

Isn't that "special"?!? Gonna have to take a peek at my Technical Repair Manual and see if the "data censors" were at work editing that as well.

I've been using Mobil 1 Turbo diesel 5W-40 for late fall - winter use. Spring - summer (you're likely Springing, now: it was -9F here this morning) use I've been using Rotella 15W-40.

The local JD dealer has offered to sell me the JD synthetic for $20/gallon. I may switch over this next fall.

I ended up going with the JD 5-40 synthetic...Price isnt bad and its good year-round.....

AKFish, is that in a Gallon jug? I paid 5.25ish per quart....Which isnt bad IMO.

i will be using Amsoil 5w30 syn 3000 it has very high levels of phophourus and zinc,i have been using this same oil in my 7.3l ford truck for 6 years with good results winter and summer. Also can extend drain intervals with an Amsoil filter.Right now a gallon is around 41.00,but it is great oil, full synthetic

Thanks Joe.

I printed that out, cut the paper down to size, and it is already in my manual. Looks like the 15W-40 will do the job for any temperature I will encounter in Southern Oregon.

Just out of curiosity, what is the language in your signature?

Not sure... I've still got a few gallons of Mobil 1 and Rotella to work thru. But with the Ford 7.3 and the DuraMax competing with the 110 for oil changes - it goes pretty quick.

I wanted at least 5 gallons and will buy 10 for the $20/gal. Maybe that's why they'll sell for that..

I'll ask them the next time I stop in. Their price is about $6 a gallon less than Wally's for the Mobil 1.
