You should get a two stage pump . It runs lower pressure higher vol till it senses backpressure from the wedge hitting the log. Then it shifts to full pressure at the rated vol. Does wonders for cycle time.
Also a detented valve is nice. Hold it on the split motion but on the return you can let go and the valve pops to center by itself when the cylinder is retracted, If you have a 24 " stroke and you are spitting 16 " you can put a stop on the rod , they look like collars open on one end you slip over the rod. The the cylinder motion stops shorter. Problem is I have not seen one of those with a power beyond port so it is hard to add the valve for the lifter. Maybe one of the valve co Prince comes to mind can put a stack together to do that. Gets ecpensive though. I am sort of at that point myself, want to add a lifter but don't see how to add the valve.

Sunset, just change the order of the valves. Put the lifter valve (with PBY) BEFORE the splitter valve with detent and you are good to go.

Here is what ours looks like.
My Dad built one like that over 30 years ago, but it disappeared one night when it was left in the bush. Apparently, we did not disguise it well enough.
But if you use that as the base, you will be fine.

Yes It came to me in the middle of the night and even before coffee in the morning I went out to look at what I had in my surplus pile. Alas 3 single spool valves but no PB on any other them. Very depressing.
