I have a New Holland TC55DA. I noticed a hydraulic leak coming from the filter area under the drivers seat area. Upon inspection, the hydraulic oil was coming from above the filter. There is what appears to be a 4 inch long nut about an inch in diameter, brass in color that screws into the tractor. When I grabbed hold of the filter itself, the whole unit moved, including the brass nut. Is my problem as easy as tightening this nut or is this not a nut at all and something has cracked. Thank you in advance for any info you have.

You asked a question that can't be answered without seeing the problem. Try tightening the "nut", if that cures the leak, you are done. If not, further disassembly/inspection will be needed. I'm guessing the banjo bolt attaching the supply tube to the hitch valve is loose. The cure may or may not require new o-rings. But that's only a guess.

Is the part you are talking about shown in the attached diagram? If so, please tell us the callout number. I'm guessing that you might be talking about #57, but I can't be sure.

Yes, #57 is the one. Can I just obtain new o-rings, lube them and put everything back together? Do you know what size wrench #57 is? I sure do appreciate the diagram. I suppose I should purchase a repair manual. Any suggestions on where to get on online? Thanks.

Purchasing the Repair Manual would be a very good thing. I refer to my manual on my TC45D all the time. It keeps me out of lots of trouble.

I am not familiar with your filter assy. or your tractor. I was just posting the diagram so you could tell us what the part is and hopefully some other expert will know what you should do about it. The diagram I posted is not from the repair mainual, but rather from PartsSpring.com . The title of the diagram is in the blue heading at the top of the page. I didn't find it with the normal hydraulic diagrams. It took some searching since it had "Power Steering" first in its title. I think the description of the part only listed its name, not its size. Can you get on it with an adjustable wrench?

Also, I sent you a PM.

Thanks for all the help with this one. I compared the diagram that Jinman sent with the one from the New Holland web site and they were a perfect match. I had the same trouble locating the correct diagram since it was labeled "Power Steering Pump and Hydraulic Pump". Turns out that all I need is the o-ring (#51 in the diagram).

Thanks to Lets Roll for a link to buy a repair manual. I knew I would need one eventually, but I thought I would be able to get away without one since since the tractor is still so new.

I realize the original poster has not been active. But how difficult was this proceedure? Tried to start my TC55da EHSS in sub freezing temperatures. I started, a brief warm up ( I am sure not long enough ) raised PTI and front spike. Tractor would not move forward or backward.... I ended up shutting it off and noticed a LOT of hydraulic fluid coming from what I thought was the filter. I assumed moisture in the fluid. I towed the tractor forward today to get it out of the pool of fluid and snow. Started the tractor up briefly and see the leak is either from that 4" riser tube or the "block" that is above it. That "block" is not labled in jinman's post ( but is the very top left most item on the diagram Just above 58 ). My leak is either the o-ring from the tube to that block, or that block! Fluid is pouring out when the tractor is started. Jinman, do you have any thoughts?

Unfortunately Jinman passed away in 2014. He certainly was a wealth of knowledge.

Hopefully someone with some experience with your TC55DA will be able to help.

Thank you! I do remember that happening now. I don't spend much time on the forum and had forgotten... He was indeed a wealth of knowledge and had helped me more than once.

Thanks, I already had 7 and 51 in my cart, I will add 39. It is supposed to get above freezing today. I was considering replacing the hoses ( 53 and 12 ) while I was there. it hasn't flexed in 20 years, I am sure once I start messing with it it will be a problem. Replacing the fluid and filter is not cheap. I really just need to tear into it and see what all has to be removed to get to the 51 and or 7 o-Rings that I think are the problem.

That's indeed a bummer. It looks like there are possibly some used options. Are there any tractor salvage places in your area? It appears they used the pump on several models. Odd that a gear pump cracked the mounting base like that too. If you have a good hydraulic pump and motor shop in your geographic region they might have some suggestions too. It appears like you might be able to source new off fleabay from China and also possibly from this place. I would consider used as well. Gear pumps are typically pretty indestructible. The most forgiving of the three main pump types at least.

This one isn't giving a direct match so a phone call would be worthwhile. The price is excellent.

Wherever it's coming from I'd want to see photos confirming port layout. Many photos show pumps with single ports and that's obviously not going to work. I see what appears to be two suction lines and two pressure lines on yours.

Wow that is crazy, wonder why it cracked?

Can the suction screen/filter (items 33-36 in attached picture) be removed, cleaned and reinstalled easily?

Also, does the right rear tire have to be removed to do the removal and cleaning?

Note I have a TC45DA.

While I have not YET take the suction tube off, it would not be worth it to try to do without taking the tire off. I put a floor jack under the rear hitch area. Jacked up just enough to roll the tire off and lean it against the front side. It is not hard, lining it back up to put back on is not terrible.

As to why it cracked? I last ran it about 4 days earlier to put out hay before the snow hit. It was about -5 degrees F. The tractor sits outside. I am guessing simply fatigued metal, and lots of pressure from cold potentially icy fluid. I bet I don't have more than 50-75 hours on the the last fluid and filter change. I think the Tractor has about 900 hours total on it. I do not run a block heater as in Oklahoma we rarely need it, but a block heater would have done nothing for the Hydraulic fluid at the pump.

I did source a couple of supposedly new old stock and a couple of remanufactured units. I have some calls in trying to decide what to go with. About $600 difference between the two. I guess I feel better about a cracked housing and not having a ton of metal in the fluid. Should make a simple drain and filter change be enough to feel good about contaminants in the system.

Thanks!!

I’m thinking I’m going remove the tire and pull the suction screen out and clean it on this service before mowing starts.

I wonder if it is better to unbolt it at the hub or the outer bolts of the wheel disc (I have two piece wheels)?
