I finally rememberd to grab my camera to get some pics of getting out some firewood. Check out my new hydraulic winch, a gentleman in Northern Vermont built it.I sold my JL601 to Dead Horse and spent the proceeds on it. I added the screen to my ROPS because its very intimidating looking down that cable pulling in 3 logs without it there!!

The DK55 pulls 3 logs up hill in snow pretty well, in some sidehill parts of the trail I had to steer with my brakes. I am very happy with this set up, it is pretty efficient and a whole lot of fun!!!!!

Had to snap a shot of my black lab Anna beggin for some beef jerky at lunch time!

Looks like you bought the one for sale on Craigs List....yes? That looks well built, and is probably an animal winch. Very nice, I'm jealous!!

The more I look at it, the more jealous I get! :( Dang, that thing is built! It must weigh a few pounds. What brand hydraulic winch is that? How many tons will it pull? I like the fairlead design too.

It looks like you have to operate the winch from the side. If that's correct, it would be a good idea to fasten a safety screen to that side of the unit. Just remember....hydraulic winches do not stop pulling.....until something breaks! Be VERY careful when operating the winch!!!!

I hear ya on being careful! You can select High, Low or Freespool from the levers you see, but to haul it in you run that function off from the remote valve. Its a really neat set up. Its a MileMarker series 70 winch, rated at 12,000lbs.

I have some, just havent put em on yet, but I havent really needed em either!

Where should I look for a deal on logging chains for 420/70 24 R4 tires?

B-B has 'em for $800+ shipping in Milford, NH.

thx,
jon

It appears you have it all covered. Excellent! That's one heck of a setup. May it bring you many cords!:D

Very cool, but you'd better get some orange paint to cover that ugly green ;)

Finally, Best of luck with your new acquisition & be careful out there.

Nice set up. I'm surprised the ROPS police haven't come after you for drilling holes for your screen bolts though. I wonder if using some metal screw clamps would have also worked to hold the screen in place.

How's the traction in the snow with that big load? Obviously R1s can handle it but I wonder how much of an issue it is and whether R4s could be used.

I've been waiting for the ROPS police to come after me, but if that ROPS is going to fold up from 5- 23/64th holes in it, well then it aint worth a dang . I've seen plenty set up this way and even had a professional say it would be fine. So I am not too worried!:D

The snow was really wet yesterday at 44* so it went really well. I just went slow and easy and she crawled right out with every hitch, I never had to stop and back up once!!

Very nice set up, but I like the picture of the lab. I have a 13 1/2 year old girl and she is the best.

They are the best thats for sure. Shes stays about 50 yards or so away, just sniffing and chasing squirrels. Some times though she goes for a walk and eats deer crap, then she gets sick. I dont like it when she does that!!
