Kubota L35
Hello fellas....I wanted to take some time and thank you guys for this forum. I have 5 acres of raw land in British Columbia. I plan on starting to develop this property and have a time line of about 4-5 years to completion. I will retire on this property so I will put in all services and build a home for my wife and I. I found this site and thru much research decided on buying a Kubota L35. I am new to tractors (city kid) but have always worked around machinery. I am confident this machine will serve me well for the future. Again, this community is wonderful. Thanks guys. BTW...I read often that you folks like photos. I have included a couple to show how my battle with mother nature has begun already! My portable tent was only 3-4 days old and I erected it on days off. I went back to the city and returned a couple of days later...

Yes, welcome to the forums! I'll bet there are others lurking around here with an L35 that can assist you if necessary.

Welcome to the club!!! As you already found out you can't let the snow build up on those portable tents. I have one and you can't let anymore that 6inches or so of wet snow build up or you get the results you got.

Ask any questions you have and you will recieve alot of answers as there are many knowledgable people on here.

Welcome to the forums! There is nothing like a good piece of land, and a tractor to work it. You will spend many happy days, and hours there, and along with your new home will become a part of you........

Welcome aboard! As others have said - lots of good ideas, advice and frquent, good natured stone busting. The pix of your L35 are great; that's a nice looking machine. I tlooks like a real snug fit in the hoop house - you must have madd backing skills.

Also, thanks for posting about the shelter. This is not the first description of this failure mode on TBN. I have been considering getting one for Rancho Paradiso to free up some shop space, but I see I'll need to figure out some system of reinforcement as we often get dumped on with deep, wet snow. This may be an ideal project for applying Kenneth Snelson's concept of "tensegrity" to greatly strengthen this the structure with the addition of some carefully arranged compression struts and tension cords.

What about those half round ones that look like a Quonset hut? Does anyone know if they hold up any better to snow?

Fellow Cowtowner. Welcome. Which part of BC is the homestead? Nice looking place. My wife and I headed east of Strathmore for our project property. Timing, Price etc...

Enjoy the Kubota and the wealth of experience here on TBN.

We picked up some property in the Creston area...Kootenays--home of the Kokanee brewery...I love that little Blue can, or more whats in that little Blue can! I am one of those few who was actually born in Calgary. Its not quite the quaint, friendly little city it once was. The wife and I are looking forward to the slower pace of a small town. BTW...I have been thru Cluny a number of times whilst visiting a friend out at their cabin in Hidden Valley many years ago! Nice area. djm

Hey Dan, I think you get what you pay for...I really didn't hold out much hope for that cheapo structure I bought. I hoped it would see me thru to spring. I went to the local muffler shop and had them make up a couple of tubes to strenghthen what had been damaged by the snow. I also added some 2X4s to see me thru to spring. I will then beef up the structure more permanently with 2x4s in March/April. Factoring in the lumber, muffler tubing and my labor, I should have spent the $s up front with a structure of better quality. Question now is, how long will the cheapo herculite (tarp) stand up. I included a couple more shots for everyones amusement. ;-) djm
