I am curious about the function of the three prong plug on the right side of the engine compartment, very close to the fuel filter and can be seen hanging from the outside. I have some thought but want to ask the experts. Thanks!

Welcome to TBN:D

Sounds like a block heater to me also...Did you buy this tractor new? It is a option-not standard equipment.

This is a 110 volt. I bought this tractor new in 2006. It has been very cold in VT (-25 below) lately and starting it lately has been a chore (battery related , not fuel related. I too think it is a block heater or something to do with the glow plugs for starting????

You should be able to trace the wire back to a freeze plug block heater. I'd be using it in VT.

Just plug it in about 30 minutes before you want to start the tractor.

I have the heater that you discribe and once you use it you will really like it.

Thank you all! This is good to know. Last winter, I did not use the tractor much but this winter I have. Unfortunately, it has been very cold and starting it has been tough. Then it dawned on me, I saw a three prong plug this past summer and remember tucking it out of the way. I will start using it before I use the tractor in the winter.

1. How long do you leave yours plugged in? It sounds like 30 minutes is the magic number.

2. By not using this plug yet, did I damage anything from the 3 or 4 very cold starts this month????

Thanks again to everyone for all your feedback!!!

Nope, you didn't damage anything with the cold starts. I start my 2305 here in MN down to -20F (so far) with no block heater. Given, it doesn't like it too much, but it starts and runs fine.

That said, a block heater may be on my list before the snow flies later this year.

Can the block heater be retrofitted? My 2305 was sold originally by a dealer in DE so no heater. My glow plugs seem to be working great, but I would appreciate the redundancy that a block heater would provide.

Thanks.
