Re-routing exhaust on JD 3005

Nice idea, it look's like the guy does nice work too. Now this has me thinking about running it to the rear and running the exhaust up the back of the ROPS.

raharejr, nice custom exhaust job. It wouldn't work for my application. Some time or other I would have my tractor axle deep in mud and end up filling the exhaust opening with mud or bending it all up. Again, nice job. The guy who did it really must take pride in his work.

Sincerely, Dirt

That looks like a good solution for you. Like Dirt, though, I would have it pretty full of mud and crushed by rocks. I wonder if there is any noticeable restriction which affects engine performance?

I put the vertical exhaust on my 790 yesterday. Pretty simply, take off the old exhaust, replace the hood stand (the old one would hit the exhaust), put on the exhaust elbow, drill hole in hood, put in grommet. Hardest thing was finding a 3.75 inch hole saw. Like the look and the sound.

Mech, how has it been as far as the amount of fumes your breathing now? Do you have a preference yet as to which direction to point the pipe to get the least amount of fumes? BTW, what does the extension cord go to on the tractor?, if you don't mind me asking.

Mech, I also have a question . . . . I may have missed something in these posts, but how do you now open your top hood to service your engine?

I believe the pipe, from the hood up, slip's off the new manifold that was attached under the hood, allowing you to open it.

I haven't driven it, just started it after I finished the install. I suspect I will point it to the side or maybe front. The vertical exhaust is much larger in diameter than the horizontal and a shorter run so it isn't as much back pressure. It seems to be quieter and has a more throaty sound. The extension cord goes to my block heater which since we are near 6" of snow will be used this morning.

I don't expect to smell much fumes. The exhaust is now the configuration of every tractor I've ever driven until this one and its never been a major problem before.

The pipe lifts off easily and also rotates to one of four positions. The kit is built very well. The elbow which the upper pipe fits to bolts to the muffler and to the engine with two more bolts.
