Took my truck to the dealer for its first maintanance.First time in my life i ever let anyone change my oil:)Ifigures the first time id let them look it over, plus there is barely room enough in my mechanic garage to rotate the tires.
Iwas surprised to learn the truck came through with synthetic in it.Ithought every one broke em in with regular oil, shows what i know.Ive never used it much, but since it came with it i shelled out 20 bucks more and used it again.Ialso learned the TOYOTA oil is a moble product.Didnt cost alot more than at wally world,so ill use the TOYOTA oil,but probably do it myself next time.
My question is did your truck come through with synthetic? Could be an old wifes tale, but i thought conventional oil,was more commonly used to break iN stuff.

Many new cars come with synthetic. Corvette, and Mercedes come to mind.

I think it's just an old wives tale.

Changing your oil every 3,000 miles is just like using nitrogen in your tires. Its just commercial non-sense.

Oils are much better, motors are less hard on oil and tires have permiability: The nitrogen fill is gone in 4 - 6 months.

Say it ain't so, Rembrandt....

Stupid is as stupid does.

I've got a 72% nitrogen blend in my tires. work best for me ;)

My dealer had a special going on so I brought in my truck. They vacuumed out the tires and put in approximately 18% oxygen, then they filled them the rest with nitrogen. He said there was a percent or two of other stuff, but I don't remember what. It was expensive, but I think it was worth it.

Alan, Hows that truck treating you? I should be coming up your way this week. Ours is just about two weeks old and some moron thought it was ok to wack their door into the side. Chipped the paint and left a tiny ding.:( No note or anything.

I can only find the 78% N2 stuff around here. You must be lucky...

John, you're right. Boy do I feel stoopit:eek:. And I just had that science class around the middle of the last century.

I think the n2 stuff is kinda funny the way its all came about, everyone has tire pressure monitors now and let me tell you from a service drive point of view most peple either love them or hate them. There are alot of dealers installing the 40k plus systems to sell n2 to the customers. I know n2 is superior to just plain ole o2 but at the end of the day your paying someone to fill your tires up, LOL. If ford would not of had all those firestone tires blow out we probably still would not have a tpm system on everything from a kia to cadi, i love it. so firestone made some bad tires that ford bought then they blew out, some people had a few wrecks on cheep oem tires, ntsb says evey car has to have tpm systems, o2 fluctuates with heat and cold and turns on your tpm light and causes your tires to wear cause ya haventy checked your tire pressure in months, so ya spend 30-100 bucks to get n2 in your tires but hey they through in the green caps for free.
sorry for the rant, have a good day

Nitrogen fluxuates also. Nitrogen is only used in commercial airplane tires and anytime I have ever checked a hot tire it is always above the cold inflation limits.
Nitrogen just does not fluxuate like standard shop air nor does it have the water to deal with.

Nitrogen in a car tire is just not a very practical idea for it's given use.

How about helium in the tires? Inert like N2, but lighter than air. Probably get 100's of miles per gallon.....not!

PM to John

hey you going to clue them in on the fact that if you take air out of "air compressor" its 78% N2?

end PM

back to toyota oil change....

most of the vehicles on that list that run synthetics are high tolerance engines. These arnt your dads worn out SBC running .0040 clearance on bearings.

I wish I could drive it for work! They want me to use the company car or a rental (if needed). Hoping to get over your way on Thursday. Still debating touching up the paint chip or just heading to a body shop. It actually has dinged the metal, and right at a crease. Guess I should just get over it & get it fixed right.
