I am going to make a dolley for my backhoe, but need to know its approx weight. So far I've only been able to find a weight for the 2300 (no FEL or BH) and the 2310 (includes both), but not the separate implements.

I found some swivel caster wheels rated at 350 lbs and wondered if 4 of those would be adequate?

Thanks,
Jay

350lb each? That would be more than enough. I would guess the backhoe itself weighs around 700lbs.

Shipping Weight for 2375 is 723 lbs. Shipping weight is usually exaggerated, Don't know if that includes a bucket.

Thanks.

I ordered 4" swivel casters that are rated at 330# each so I should be all set.

Rusty

I'm thinking about something made of hardwood similar to what is described in this thread:

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kubota-owning-operating/51901-bx-bh-dolly-project.html

But am also considering a slight modification so that it's more triangular, like the ones made by bxpanded.com

When/if I get something that works, I'll post details and pictures.

I also have to do some garage modifications so that I'll have a place to roll the BH.

I *finally* got the casters from Harbor Freight (they must have been on that slow boat from China that my parents used to talk about) and put the dolley (dolly?) together. I made it a little bit longer than it has to be for the backhoe to accommodate the snow blower, too.

My plan is when it's time to change seasonal implements, I'll put the backhoe on the dolley - then when it's backhoe time again, I'll use the dolley for the snow blower. This way I can push them off to a corner of the garage and keep them under cover.

I know it would go easier if I had 2 dolleys, but space is already tight and my goal is not to amass a collection of these things.

I used pressure treated 2x10 for the ends, and PT 2x4s for the sides. The casters are 5", but it probably would go on an off a bit easier if I used smaller wheels since that makes it a bit easier for the BH to angle off the brackets.

Considering my investment is about $25, I'm satisfied this will do the job nicely.

Jay

Very nice job, Jay. That will make storage a lot easier. Unfortunately, mine has to stay outside for now because of limited room in the garage. The tractor has a space but I put the Backhoe and bush hog up on blocks and cover them with tarps. It will have to do for this year. We are building a new house next year and I am also building a 3 car garage as well as a new barn so I will have the room for all my toys to be inside. I'll be sure to refer back to your design when the need arises.

I hear you loud and clear. I'm doing some modifications to a storage area attached to our garage so that I can push the backhoe and the wood chipper under cover. Unfortunately, I still have to choose between having the tractor or my car inside - so for this winter it looks like the tractor gets the honor.

Next year, we hope to build a carriage house/workshop to keep the tractor and related things together.

On the dolly front, since I'm not a design expert it will take a few changes along the way for me to get things just right. It would be easier if I knew what I was doing, but where's the challenge in that?

The Red Sox and the Patriots are both playing today - and since the weather doesn't really lend itself to outdoor projects, that lineup seems like a pretty good afternoon of serious couch potato-ness. :D

What a weekend! Built a dolly for the bachoe just like in this thread 1 Hour, Took off backhoe (first time) 10 Minutes, Took off loader (5 minutes) and Installed snowblower (30 minutes) Then I pushed Backhoe and loader into the garage, greased all three liberally:rolleyes: Gee I love my tractor!

That's why God created TIVO. Everything is now on your schedule.

Good stuff. It seem that all think the same as seasons change. I'm working on my ideas for a backhoe dolly myself. Hope to have it together next weekend. I'll post mine when complete.

One thing that I might do differently is to use slightly smaller casters. The BH would go on and off a bit easier if I could get a bit more tilt to help it angle off the tractor - and even an inch lower would make a nice difference. But since I will only be doing this a couple times a year, I'll probably just live with it.

I also intentionally made my BH dolly a bit longer than I need for the BH so it would fit the skid pads on the snow blower.

One nice thing about using pressure treated wood that's screwed together is that I can make modifications if/when necessary.

Airic, good luck with your project - I'll be interested in pictures and design mods you and others make.

OK, I cheated. Took me about 10 minutes to get mine built. I recently got a jet ski dolly someone was going to throw out and the light bulb in my head came on. Seems to work very well with little modification required. This dolly idea works much better than I would of thought and I'll be using it regularly now. Speeds up the time on putting the back hoe back on the tractor by not having line the tractor up just right. Roll in place and mount.

I dreaded taking off the BH. (I'd never done it before) It was so easy and your right, the roll into place to install makes it childs play!:D

Nicely done. Now are you going to push the backhoe to a place where you can give it a shower? :p

I used a bungy cord to keep the stablizer arms from settling, and locked the boom with the metal plate/pin, but I did not have the bucket swiveled all the way to the front when I took it off - and that has settled a bit.

It doesn't present a problem, just one of those things that I tell myself this year I should remember fore the next time.

But I won't.

I knew I'd get the backhoe needs a bath comment. Jaybrad, I see yours and it looks like it just rolled off the assembly line. My pressure washer broke so, I'm blaming it on that. I do recommend that you get those pins in. It would not be a pretty sight seeing you backhoe fallen over.

Anyway, I highly recommend that anyone with a backhoe build one of these for the ease of reinstalling to the tractor and roll away storage. I just wish I would of earlier.

Hey, I was going to say that it looked rather *orange*, but thought that would be considered hitting below the belt. :D
