rachet tie downs-tractor hauling

I was told by someone who was involved with testing of straps and chains that said straps can withstand shock loads better than chains. However straps IMO must never come in contact with anything between tie points. I had D-ring brackets made for my tractor so I'm not wrapping chains or straps around stuff. If I do use straps I use 4" ones. The ratchet on those is strong enough to fold a trailer in half if you really draw them in tight. Some states require separate chains from all 4 corners load binded on rubber tired vehicles.

 Mine are more than 2" and are rated for much more than that. I have 4" and they are made to do what I am using them for. Anything ratted for 10K should not be allowed on the road when using them for a 3-5K tractor. The forces that could rack on the tractor in hard breaking, bumps, or a crash would be 10 times that. Long story short, just like with chains,
* use the right stuff, and don't take an example from someone who used the wrong stuff to say that straps should never be used.:D
O K ---> HOW WIDE & WHAT Rating are the correct straps ?

so were the straps 10k BREAKING strength or 10k WLL (Working Load Limit)???

2-4 10k WLL straps should be more than enough for a 3-5k tractor, however 10k breaking strength ones are probably not.

I like to overkill stuff a bit. I have 4" straps. 20,000lb ratings.

Out of curiosity, where did you get 4" straps with a 20k rating? I've looked all over the internet and it appears as if such a setup can be had it would cost far, far more than appropriately sized grade 70 U.S.A. made chain and binders. Also, most every strap that is 4" and comes with a ratchet system is rated at 20k breaking but only 6600 WLL. Even then, there is clear warnings that the strap rating drops after exposure to the sun and with any wear.

I have an 8" wide 'snatch strap' used to recover heavy equipment that is stuck that is rated well over 150k, but it is so huge and hard to use it is crazy. Besides, if I didn't get it from the mine when it closed down it likely would have cost over a thousand dollars. I'm sure there is 4" strap with a Working Load Limit (the rating that actually matters) of 20k, but I can't find it nor the ratchet with that rating to go with the strap. I'd like to know what place sells it. I buy from AW Direct, a towing supply company, and they don't have what you speak of.

I checked them just now and they are 15,000lb with a WLL 5,000lbs. As marked on the strap. I can't remember where I bought them. It was from the net. I remember they were hard to find with the round wire hooks rather than the flat type. The guy said his whole business was just selling tie down straps to the government. And most straps made one way trips to secure something on train cars. Anyway I bought 4 of the 4" for $200.00. I thought that was a good price considering how huge the ratchets are on these things. If you aren't careful you could damage your trailer with these things or pull tires flat Lolololll. Chances are these straps will be as strong as the D-rings they are fastened too.
After I bought them I wish I had just got the 3" instead.

My neighbor used rachet tiedowns when we moved my 2520 to the dealership. They are the same ones he uses to tie down and haul a HMMV to the Baja 1000. 3" I believe.

I'd like to know where you can find U.S.A. made binders?
