Zeroing in on LS or Kioti but I have some ?

. . . 16 gears vs 12 gears if you're going with the shuttle shift, which is what Im going as the 4 different dealers Ive shopped all said go with the shuttle, and only one had a HST in stock. . . .

Chances are that they recommended shuttle precisely because they didn't have an HST model in stock.

If you're going to be doing a lot of loader work or other back and forth work, the HST is a huge plus. If you're going to be plowing all day going around in circles in a field, the gear tractor is a better choice. Horses for courses and all that. JMHO.

An extensive poll was taken here a couple of years back, and it seems the majority of us have HST equipped tractors.. and that makes sense, because the majority of us are not full time farmers. And the majority of us have SCUTS and CUTS with some utility size thrown in.. Yes there are some execptions but SCUTS and CUTS are the majority. Some people still love and will always have geared tractors for one reason or another, but I have never seen a first time tractor owner that did not want to plow fields fulltime , that I would recommend anything but a HST equipped tractor to. But you pays your money and you takes your choice.:)

I have both gear and HST....no comparison. For doing loader work the HST is way, way, better. For mowing, the HST is better, and faster, because you don't go out of your way to avoid changing directions the wy you do (I do anyway) with the geared machine.

If I was plowing large fields, a gear setup would make total sense, but I'm not, and neither are most folks here. Run both for a while and it's unlikely you'll want to go geared. A few folks here have gone so far as to trade in (and lose $) for no other reason than to get the HST thought they didn't want/need.

I was one of the shuttle shift (gear)folks when I bought my 2008 Kioti Dk40se .It only took me 4 years and total knee replacement surgery to figure out I needed a HST verses the gear shift.I bought my Cab 2012 Kioti DK40 se with HST.IMHO no comparsion,go with the HST.

You'd think so, but two of the four dealers the sales guys said they didnt like the HST and one was the one with the HST in stock. Said it robbed power and was a waste of money, so IDK. Im going to do a bunch of food plots so the pulling power (plowing) is important to me, so I was going with the Shuttle anyway.

It's true about robbing power, about 15 percent. Waste of money? No way. No how, Not even. Besides you get your money back if you ever trade it in.. because it is the transmission everyone (well the majority) want. But if you are doing a lot of plowing, and not much loader work... and you know you want the shuttle.. then you want the shuttle.

Yea, I was actually wanting the HST until I talked to the first dealer and he really had nothing good to say about them, so I came here and did some research and realized the shuttle would suit me better anyway.

Did you ask any of the dealers who they were selling all these gear tractors to? What is their clientele comprised of? Actual full time farmers? Folks like yourself with food plot farming tasks? I just don't buy dealers slamming the products they sell, saying things like they have nothing good to say about hst tractors? Ask them why and what they base this opinion on. They may have their reasons, but it still doesn't invalidate the usefullness or value to buyers of hst tractors. If there were no value to hsts the manufacturers wouldn't be making them.

I would suggest doing your own research, and discounting what most salesman tell you.... and make your own mind up....I don't mean to badmouth all salespeople...but..through my own experience, 90 percent will tell you ANYTHING, to sell you what they have on hand, and many of them don't know what they are talking about, this goes for cars, trucks, boats, tractors etc.

Educate yourself and listen to the folks on here that own and operate these things.:)
Make your own mind up on what you want by educating yourself, before dealing with a salesman...and stick to your guns:thumbsup:

I completely agree...

Unless your sole purpose for this tractor is straight ground engagement work, then HST is the way to go. I am speaking from experience. I went from HST to shuttle, then back to HST. There is no comparison.
