I know I've just got a lowly D130 (for now;)), but I am servicing it and have to go buy a grease gun tomorrow. Does anyone know the size of the zerk fittings for the grease gun (both wheel hub and spindles)? I want to make sure I pick up the right gun and grease! Thanks!!!

Grease zerks are pretty much universal I would just go buy a good gun with a swivel head and be done with it.

To each his own but I use the purple marine grease on everything, doesn't seem to rub off as easily. Frequent greasing in small quantities will make abig difference in how long your equipment will last, so don't get lax about it.

Thanks! I figured they were all pretty much universal but I figured I'd check. We got the tractor new so we're 8 hours into use so it's the first time to service.

Any recomensations on where to get a good gun and what I can expect to pay. I was thinking about an auto parts store or tractor supply. Seems like they range in price from $15 to $200. Oh, and do I need a different grease gun for each grease or can I switch the grease out?

Matt, I'd definitely recommend you purchase one of the flexible hose assemblies instead of the rigid tube grease gun nozzle. Most grease guns come with the rigid tube about 8" long with the nozzle screwed onto the end. Especially when greasing your deck spindles, you may not be able to get the nozzle onto the zerk squarely and grease will leak out around the adapter. With the hose, you can find a position to hold the nozzle squarely to the zerk and not have blowout type leakage.

Also, don't forget the zerk in the center of the front axle (the axle up/down pivot point). It's a bit of a pain to get to, but you want to make sure that bushing doesn't wear out. All the other zerks are pretty straight forward. The deck spindle zerks will have a cutout in the plastic shields to allow the grease gun nozzle onto the zerk, but you might have to feel around the spindle and remove any debris that could be in the way. This is from the top of the deck. There's no greasing required from the bottom of the deck.

Thanks for the input. I actually have the whole deck off right now because I wanted to check the spindle brakes as the owners manual says to do. So I was able to get to the zerk fittings easier(I had no idea what i was even looking for).

Now to run to the store and get some grease and grease gun. The yard is looking worse every day.......
