Yanmar YT359 ROPS
I have a YT359 ROPS with two factory hydraulic remotes. I would like to run a 3pt hitch sickle mower (Brush Hog PT5) that has a hydraulic controlled boom and a hydraulic motor driving the sickle.

Based on my limited experience with hydraulics, I believe I could run the mower off one of my remotes by wedging the control lever open to provide continuous (I do this with a hydraulic logging winch I made). Or, I could get the Yanmar Power Beyond Kit. (The PT5 has its own spool valves.)

I am leaning toward the power beyond kit since it would be nice to put a spool control valve at the logging winch rather than reaching up to the remote levers by the seat.

I have a question about the functioning of the rear remotes with the power beyond kit.

Do the rear remotes continue to function as normal when something is attached to and running off the power beyond port?

The reason I ask is that I have hydraulic top and side links that are typically using the rear remotes. It would be nice if I did not have to replace one or both of them with fixed links each time I use the sickle.

The PT5 docs says it has its own self contained hydraulics, driven off the PTO. Which is good because the tractor's hydraulic system isn't powerful enough to run a flail or rotary mower. The PT5 can have either type.

I'll leave that in case someone read it already but I was wrong- that's for a different model (on the same brochure, so its confusing). The PT5 uses the tractors hydraulics. It says it needs only 3.7 gpm.

I can't find any info on the Yanmar PB setup, but it's an open center system. Those have valves in series, one after another. The valves that raise the 3pt are usually last, and the loader is usually first. When a valve is being used (like to move a cylinder) then usually the valves downstream from it don't see any flow. The rest of the time they do.

Thank you for sharing the configuration of the Yanmar's hydraulics. I have started reading books on the basics of hydraulic systems. However, Yanmar does not share much specific information to the public. Your insight into the direction of priority is very useful.

Have you found any good books?

Good luck on your quest, Dick

The two resources most useful so far are:

US Army Field Manual 5-499 Hydraulics, which can be downloaded from the internet.
