Awesome! What year/motor/trans?

She's a 1986 with 6.9 idi diesel and manual transmission. Starts a little tough but seems to run strong when she's warmed up.

I'm now looking to get some new / used tires for it and hopefully drive it around.

Manual windows (I love the old vent windows too), manual locks, manual transmission... Less electronics to go bad. She does have air conditioning too which I hear is rare for this truck.

Oops, double post, so here is a picture of me looking at my hay field. I think I see something moving in there.

Neat truck - we don't see many dually Fords with the flatbed and IDI around here. I traded for a '90 F350 box truck with the 7.3IDI and 5 speed last year and its been a great truck so far.

They have their quirks like starters, battery cables, injector lines etc but its mostly due to age. I tend to forget these trucks are 25-30 years old by now...They just keep going!

It's already all the way up.

Doesn't look way too high, just a bit like you say. May not give you issues, but goosenecks that are too high in front will usually lock up the front tires easily. Thn if you lighten up the brake controller you are not getting enough help from the trailer with stopping. Loosen the two bolts on the back of the gooseneck and shorten the shaft a bit. Goosenecks should be levelled for different height truck beds if you want to get good braking performance.

Gotcha. Hard to tell sometimes with a picture. Also hard to tell in this picture how high that front axle is because it looks like the field is uneven and the truck is pointing downhill and the trailer is still going uphill. Sort of. Maybe it's not actually an issue when you are on a flat road, and just looks like one because of the picture.

Do you find that your front tires lock up easier than the rear when you have to stop quickly? That dually truck will probably not settle down much just from a couple of ponies, but still you might get better braking from the front axle if you keep the ponies in the front two stalls and keep as much weight on the tongue as possible, instead of having them at the back of the trailer with the weight balanced over the axles.

You probably already know all of this anyway, just making conversation really. :)

Here is my field and arena towing rig. My tractor is a 2WD 77HP with loaded front and rear tires plus a loader, so really not able to go into the fields in spring or fall when they are still wet. Gets stuck too easily and even if I don't get stuck it leaves huge ruts. This setup is light enough to get around the fields in the wet season, so it lets me get out there when my tractor can't. Obviously not going to carry or tow the load of a tractor, but keeps the fields in good shape. I can put two wet 5' round bales on the trailer though and have no problems shuttling them around without causing noticeable ruts. The Teryx has a 750cc engine and will pull a reasonable load in low gear. Trailer is a 6x10 with a 2950 lb carrying capacity, so for travel I can load the Teryx on this trailer, and then when I get there I back the Teryx off, hook the trailer up to it and it is ready to work. Also use the Teryx to drag my ring since it is faster and more manouverable than the tractor. Lots of tight turning required to drag a ring when it is full of jumps, cavalettis, and trotting poles. :)
