The 2.5" units like the one you have or the Ford factory unit I have is the only way to go on a diesel truck. You will be much better off getting a hitch that will give you confidence and match or exceed the abilities of your truck.

Right on, Bro! I will be getting one at my earliest convenience and a bug smasher too.

Here is my answer to all those folks who are always asking "how big a trailer should I get?" .....ans: bigger than this! This is my second trailer and it still isn't big enough. Neither is my current truck - although it was bought as a 90% commuter and 10% country truck so a compromise had to be made. It now has 209,000 miles on it and you can bet my next truck / trailer will be BIGGER.

Mike,
I sure love those Oak and Cedar trees out there around Paige and Bastrop. What brand of Grapple do you have?

Mike, A little overhang at either or both ends is not so bad but ... I have bite marks in the plastic body panels at the rear of my service body (where tail lights are mounted) from the sharp corners of the FEL bucket from positioning it improperly and turning too sharply. If I position the tractor for good balance with FEL and brush hog attached then the FEL (properly adjusted) clears the truck and the brush hog is partially supported by the trailer (enough to be stable and secure).

My trailer is about 18'3" on deck but 20' would have been better and 22' would have been super but starting to be more hassle to maneuver in tight places with bumper pull. I claim ignorance. I had never had a tractor and HD (12,000 lb) trailer before. If there is a next time, I think the trailer will be longer and maybe a goose neck.

Brandi -- the grapple is from Unlimited Fab ...Skid Steer loader attachments -- Yeah I like those trees too -- which is why I'll be spending the rest of my life there starting in just a couple more years.
Pat -- my lil' F150 wouldn't handle a long goose but my next setup will look a lot like Brandi's -- 3/4 ton truck with a gooseneck. Not so sure about it matching my fingernails though.....think I can find one in "grime"?

Mike,
Do you live near Bastrop or closer to Paige? When I was little, Mom and Dad had 78 acres near Dimebox and Lexington.
