It gets really old by the 3rd or 4th day but by the 10th or 12th you just wonder when it's going to end.

I do appreciate having a healthy gen around, but 24 hours straight is about my "old" limit for my current configuration.

Now at 12 hours run. The air conditioner soft starter has worked great. Hardly see a blip in the lights when the 4 ton compressor runs. I look out the window.....all black. Hardly any lights. Spooky. I wish i had my xmas light so i could turn them on.

Years back, I drove through a big chunk of my province during a wide-area outage. It does feel post-apocalyptic driving for hours at night with ZERO lights/power up anywhere. Lots of time to reflect on "normal" life.

During that big summer outage, I remember tuning across a quiet radio dial in my vehicle. Like something out of the twilight zone.

Our power came back last night around 10:30. That was a 14 hour outage. I have heard back from some of my customers that there power is still out. I have had no calls for gen trouble during this outage....yeah.
Generac itself has no generators to send to california. There 82,000 generators back ordered a few weeks ago.

Install once, right. Looking good.

82,000. Even in this thread, that's a big #.

Electricians here are screwed with the inability to get circuit breakers. COVID Boogeyman! I think those kinds of shortages are just starting. Little things that add up to big things.

Same happened to me when Loma Prieda Earthquake hit in 1989... Only station was over a hundred miles away... all local presets nothing...

During that big summer outage, I remember tuning across a quiet radio dial in my vehicle. Like something out of the twilight zone.

I remember that big August outage. One story that stuck with me was inner-city Toronto kids seeing a starry sky for the first time.

It's interesting how we respond to light. The drive I was on was just after the '98 Ice Storm. Drove for 2+ hours at night, all pitch dark. Finally came across ONE rural gas station that was running a big generator - building fully lit, all pumps on, EVERY big yard-light on.

I had enough extra fuel with me that I didn't have to stop (but did anyway). Even so, that fully-lit station sure looked good that night. Just down the road was a closed gas station that the military was set up in - they were filling up by flashlight from the below-ground tanks, using their own surface pumps.

Always figured having a generator on standby/ready-to-go was a good idea; that trip locked that concept down for me, solid.

Certain sectors of supply are getting hit BAD these days. Life is just reinforcing my packrat tendencies.......
