LOL, I never need to exercise my gen set as we have so many outages here that it gets done on real situations.
Heck even the gasoline does not have time to go bad!
But all that aside I do exercise and I use an old baseboard heater as a load.
Down side is I wish I had an automatic system as to find a flashlight and go and start the genset gets boring.
On the other side outages I can live with as long as the TV and internet lives.
Speaking of which I think I'll go and start up my genny just to see if it still works, LOL, never can tell!

Thanks to this thread, I now regularly fire up my genny. I get a guilty feeling now when folks post here and it's been more than a month since I exercised it... can't say I always put a load to it but thinking at least starting and letting it warm up is better than nothing, right? :ashamed:

Not loading it, isn't doing much for the generator head, you have to load it to get heat build up in it to drive out the moisture...

driving moisture out probably first priority, agreed, but then moving oil around is a good idea too...
I bet your area is damp like mine, I'd say any running is better than no running.
Because we all know that no running usually means no starting at some point.
Moving gas through carb always good too. I use non ethanol high test which helps.

We do get used to convenience ! Obviously, manual start is a whole lot better than nothing
, but auto-start does have its advantages....... In a really bad Winter, going out in the dark at Minus Stupid Degrees Below is not high on my list of Fun Things To Do...... and I generally still like being out all year long......Gas gens are migrating that way anyway, but if I don't go auto-start on my next gen, FI will be a priority - to enable easy remote starting.

Is there a way to have a new 22KW Generac actually power the home during its weekly exercise routine? I'm usually here when it runs and if I had to I could manually flip a switch.
Glad to see I'm spreading the guilt :drink: I started this thread mostly to shove myself into action..... I routinely spend time on TBN anyway, and figured if a few other people hung out, it would enhance my GOYA motivation....
Along the way, I've learned a lot more about other people's generators and practices, seen pictures of some pretty neat installations, and interesting custom built additions.....
IMO, any run (longer than 15 minutes in shirt-sleeve weather) is better than nothing, but do prefer loading. Space heaters are usually the easiest/cheapest way to add substantial load, but I also mix it up with running shop vacs and charging idle batteries, probably because those last items are things I need to do anyway.....
