Your last generator Maintenance Run

Been running on the Honda EU2000i for 29 hours now. Only stopped for fuel fills and oil checks. Power was out when I came home from work yesterday, huge snowstorm.

Man... we are looking at spring here... take care. Gotta love Honda generators!

Just came back on as I was headed to bed. . I think I will treat my generator to an oil change when I'm off work next week. Burnt about 12 liters of gas in 28 hours of run time. But nobody was home, just me in the evening for a few short hours after long day of work. Just powering furnace fridge and two freezers and a few lights as I go to bed when I got home.

Good for you doing it on a 2000. I run a 3000 but we suffer with TV going too!

I ran mine for an hour yesterday evening. I will run it long enough to warm up the oil today, then change oil out for synthetic. It has 10w30 dyno oil in it right now. I think the synthetic will be better for it as it runs infrequently.

With a bit of luck, you are back now/soon Kevin. Hadn't heard about the storm this far East, hope you have lots of gas in stock.

Guessing an oil change is probably not much more than a litre on your EU, and due soon....

I have to admit, I plugged the tv in for half an hour before bed. It was nice knowing that while I was gone for work all day that the house was still warm. I really want to upgrade to a larger generator so that I have 220 volt and power my water pump. But the minimal fuel usage of this guy is sure appealing. Been looking online at Honda, Yamaha, Kipor and Champion in the 5-7000 watt range.

Conventional vs. synthetic can be more contentious that ***, Politics, Religion :laughing: Maybe all 3 combined !

Sumps on most light gens are tiny, so the cost factor isn't a big deal. Conventional has come a long way, but within a given oil manufacturer's lineup, the synthetics usually have a better additive package - nice for long term storage.

Up Nord here, I value the better flowability of synth at low temperatures. Being a belt-and-suspenders kind of guy, I don't want to give the tiny starting motor and relatively small battery any extra load heading towards -30C.

For manual start, I'd say I value synthetic even more in my olde 2kw, as the 7kw is an easier (better designed for mechanical advantage) pull. Been running synth in the 2kw for a long time, and in the 7kw from the first oil change.

Not so much of a maintenance run as a test of a new generator. I bought a never used Voltmaster PTO 15/12 generator off of craigslist for a screaming good price. I hooked it to my JD 2320 and ran it for an hour hooked to an old electric stove I had just replaced from the house and didn't have out of the garage yet. With the stove I was able to put different loads on it and test everything out, even find the max of the tractor. It was the perfect test load being from the 80s it was pure analog restive load, could take any hiccups in power if there were any. The generator ran great, held voltage and frequency really well and gave great clean power.

The only downside to the Voltmaster is that the voltage gauge isn't the best to read from the tractor seat. I am going to look at wiring in a digital meter and maybe even a current/frequency setup that is easy to read. If I get it done I will post pics and a "how to".

I ran my Honda 2000 about 5 hrs total this last week, powering a 15amp batt. charger, charging batts away from the shop.

While it was doing batt charging duty, it also was running my electric impact wrench...

I LOVE that little thing!!
