Your last generator Maintenance Run

I had to read that a few times. A drain (like a spigot) to drain the batteries? Why? I think I'm just tired.

Excercised that morning? Isn't that a real kick in the head? And 400 bucks on top of that!

YUP! That morning :irked:
On the plus side, he said it was one of the cleanest genset/diesel engines he has ever seen, not even a seep from the turbo

Maybe you need to switch to twice daily testing. Reminds me of Submarine humour posts found on the Web. Just remember to wire closed the battery acid spigots and keep a record.

I will update, he is coming back on Sat to determine the issue

Please post up once you know.... that is interesting.

After a charge, can you load-test the old ones ? Seems like strange timing, but one thing that could do it is one cell deciding to open-circuit after your morning run.....

Will do.

Both batteries were about 1 volt, and they were 7 years old, so I figured that it was just easier to buy new ones then spend the time trying to recondition them (if they would even take the charge) and just buy new ones and get the core charge discount.

That way IF we did lose power from now to Sat, I can just throw them in and start it up... these thunder storms kill our power more than anything else

That is really weird. Did you have nothing you could boost it with, or add an extra battery? That would be the downside to 24 volt.

04879DF2-FAE2-4198-8275-E1BF76B8EA36.jpegMy Apologies, I just checked… And it’s actually a dual battery 12 V set up, not 24V

And for those saying it would have wet stacking, you can clearly see how clean that turbo is, not a drop of oil

He thinks the silver solenoid that is functioning as a relay has gone bad

Was the 400 for the service call too. 400 seems steep for two pretty conservative batteries. If that thing had been run that day, it should not have taken much to get it boosted and going. I would have left no resource untouched to get a set going in an outage.

Yes sorry, 400 was for two batteries the solenoid and a new belt. I figured with the age of the batteries, and being so low on voltage I just replace them.

it’s one of those things were I feel I shouldn’t cheap out
