On the note of remote monitoring. During this current recent cold spell, -41C this morning, it is really making me want remote monitoring available for my house. Interior temp. Fridge and or freezer temp sensors and water on floor sensors. Has anyone found a good system for this so I can check on my home status at -41 when I am away on Maui enjoying the sun?

Well. What I dreaded has happened. So ironic that I was thinking about it a few day ago. We returned from Maui this evening to find the house at 7 Celsius. The furnace air inlet had frozen over. The basement was at its 18 degree setpoint as it is thankfully heated off a separate glycol boiler. Garage was also at setpoint. Had an uncle feeding the dog and cat in the garage daily, and he would have assumed the house was warm if the attached garage was warm.

I really hope there are no damaged pipes. Today was the warmest day in a week at -22 C. There were many days at -38. Ugh.

Kinda not really generator related, but more remote monitoring related. Sorry.

Oh, boy. Hope you are pleasantly surprise.

wow, you need a snorkel for your furnace intake, like on Jeeps...hope it all warms up ok.

My beef with WD40 is the can......
The last three cans of Kroil, my personal favorite, have all jammed up shortly after using them.
Switching spray tops didn't help. Going to complain to them and ask if they will send me a squirt sprayer variety, not ever
going back to their aerosols. WD40 has gotten a lot more expensive these days, maybe buying that in bulk and manually spraying is a good
idea too. I use it more to clean things out than lubricate, like getting the dirt out of rear lift arm balls and connections.
I don't expect WD40 to last long.

Some years back I purchased it by the gallon and used a 'squirt bottle' to spray.
\
Another area that it shines is as a contact cleaner for electronics (like switches and even inner components)
In itself it is not corrosive so safe to circuitry.

I give each key hole a small squirt on an annual basis and never have a frozen or jammed lock.

I have used WD40 on switches and electrical contacts also, but
I would add that when wet it is conductive and flammable so use
caution on energized contacts and electrical.
It is a good cleaner, I use it for hydraulic quick connects and as a general cleaner for glues and tar
type products it also loosens never seize for removal from your hands or clothes.
I still have about a qt in the last gallon can I purchased plus spray cans floating around in the shop
and house and vehicles.
For a lubrication that doesn't pick up a lot of grit and dirt I like powdered graphite.

Not that old Walkman radio? Isn't that an oxymoron?

I am a fan of WD-40 as well. Do you use it with a straw? Mine never clogs.

:drink: ..... I still like a portable radio, for certain things outside....

They've gotten pricier, since I bought mine 2 or so years ago.

WD..... doesn't matter, straw, no straw, can't seem to handle Canuck weather. I do like the last style I bought - flip nozzle with captive straw..... good design, if it stays working.

Close call, but if it only got down to 7C, you're probably fine.... you'd be seeing at least damp drywall by now.

Does that inlet pipe have a screen, or did snow pile up too high ?

Found the supply line on the second floor toilet leaking and caused this only an hour after I turned the water on to the house. So thankful I turned it off when we were gone. This could have caused massive damages if unchecked for a day or two.
I am definitely getting a smart thermostat that I can monitor temps from away. Thinking either the ecobee 4 or the Nest gen 3
