After all the rain yesterday and overnight from the storm the power went out at 11AM. I went ahead and let the pool run and turned on the Polaris to vacuum up the debris. Inside I vacuumed all the blinds, the floor, and now I get to mop. Tomorrow  Genny ran for just over 2 hours. I was thinking of getting one of those small Honda 2000 units. It might make sense to have one during an extended outage, plus it would come in handy around the property.

Just had a few snow flurries here in Colorado yesterday. I am getting ready to go trow some fuel in the Predator 6500 generator and put some load on it for 15 or 20 minutes. Thanks for the reminder.

Power just dropped here just before 5 PM. High winds & rain from Michael passing through. Whole house unit came on & running now. From the UPS readouts, we were getting sagging voltage (46v) on one leg & dropout on the other prior to the generator kicking in.

I think it's a regional thing.

With small gasoline gens, regional fuel variations and carb design are 2 factors, and relatively complex ones at that... one of the challenges with storing dry is getting ALL the fuel out of the carb..... that's what caught up with me, after years of storing my smaller gen dry.

Some of us have moved from one storage method to the other, with reason..... I'm all for whatever technique works in your specific situation - keep doing it .

Wet/full-tank storage works for me today. (Efree + either Stabil, Seafoam, or Startron....). I like that the gens are ready to roll, w/o fuelling up (a bonus, esp. if SWBO is home-alone). Even w/o that consideration, I like keeping tanks full, due to the extreme temperature and humidity swings we have here.

Full gen tank or not, unless you have lottery-win luck, use a name brand stabilizer in your gas cans..... pretty much nobody contends that modern gasoline is stable past 30 days.....

Yeah I use stabil too... when I remember.

I keep Velcro straps around for a few tasks. When I bring a can home AND dose it with stablizer, then I throw a strap around the handle..... if it sits for a day or 3, then No Strap seems to trigger my less-than-perfect memory.....

Nik, Wakey - how are your areas doing floodwater wise ?

More than a few guys here have multiple sizes of gens.... often those 2kw or so light gens get used the most - easy to transport, and meet lots of everyday needs. Need to haul out the big guns if you are doing something like welding structural framing, but most of us aren't doing that every week.

I started this thread, thinking if a few guys stop by, that'll help me remember to git'er done myself.....

Along the way, I've learned a lot about generators - big and small, wiring issues, interesting add-ons, and seen some really nicely done installations and fab work.

I'd say that I like hanging out in this thread more than watching TV.... but that's damning with faint praise :drink:

For us, no worries. If it gets high enough to threaten the house, there had better be an Ark out there somewhere. Some nearby roads can get over-flow from nearby farm ponds if things get bad. In town (6 miles away), some streets get inundated if the storm drains can't keep up. That's about it.

No flooding here, we are about 600'. I am about 1 hour due East of Atlanta.
