I remember someone being in trouble for taking the braids of the girl in front of him and dipping them in the inkwell. (wasn't me)

It had to be done in winter? Not spring, summer, or fall?

All year around. The truck ran 5 or 6 days a week.

I greased it once a week, I don't remember how often I changed the oil, but it was often, because my Dad believed in preventive maintenance.

He had the IH big six, but everyone else who had Fords and Chevs all had V8's. They would brag if they got 60k before overhaul. My Dad got 100k before overhaul. The engine was running all day, because of the loader.

The modern ballpoint pen has been around since the 1930’s, and damn-near ubiquitous since the 1950’s.

Our desks still had the hole for the ink well and some residual ink around it.
We started with those thick red pencils then got the regular yellow ones.
When our writing was deemed good enough we graduated to Bick ball points.

This left me with time to flick the bra of the girl sitting in front of me.
I caught heck from the girl, the teacher, the girl's mother and my mother.
Somehow they didn't think of moving one of us.

We started with those thick red pencils then got the regular yellow ones. When our writing was deemed good enough we graduated to Bic ball points.

Same progression here, except our first fat pencils were painted black.

We were not using ink wells even though many of the desks had them. However there were many "fountain" pens with the split nib and ink cartridges that would make a similar mess.
And I see that they are still available!
