I do remember transistor radios. I still use one when I can’t get phone reception —- which is most places at the farm.

I just remembered about the Andy Devine show, with a frog who Andy would ask him to Plunk his magic twanger! Anyone remember that, or am I just imagining it?

I partially remember the Andy Devine show. He was better as a jovial character in a western movie.

Yes - The Adventures of William Tell.

I sort of remember that show but it didn’t last too long if I remember correctly.

It was pretty lame. Hard to fool even little kids with it.

Agreed. It only lasted 9 months - from 9/15/58 to 6/15/59. So, not many were fooled.

Transistor radio was good for AM radio to find talk radio especially Paul Harvey and the Red Sox games

And I'm sure many of us remember when AM radio was the only thing around.

My first car had tubes in the radio.

I worked in a garage and one of my assignments was to fix customer radios by replacing the blown tubes. I would take the tubes across the street to the drug store and use their free tube tester and then pick a new bulb from their rack.

Last year I dug out the Panasonic transistor radio which I got for Christmas too many years ago. It had been in an unheated shed for 20 years and I was disappointed to see that it didn't work. I listened to that little AM radio a lot, 50+ years ago.

I'm not sure of the year but I got a transistor radio when they first came out. It was so cool to have one and they were clear as a bell and well made. They were just called "transistors" and not "transistor radios". If you had a transistor, you became a chick magnet.
