You can't make this stuff up...

/ You can't make this stuff up... #21
Those of you whom watch TV likely have seen the commercial with the guy ranting about drinking lead, "would you drink lead?" Mind you, growing up in PA, we ate a lot of what we called squirrel or rabbit pot pie. But danged if I can remember anyone eating either critter's brains?

We ate a LOT of wild game when I was growing up. My Dad came from a farming family, grew up in the 1920's, so he was old school and was privy to a lot of practical knowledge. He wouldn't hunt rabbits until after we had a freeze in the fall...he said the freeze killed off the weak and sick ones...and we didn't kill squirrels until late in the Spring. Any game that looked lethargic, or showed any abnormalities or signs of parasites were rejected...and we never ate any of the organs of any wild game. To top it off, all of my family, on both sides would not eat any meat of any kind unless it was cooked and cooked and cooked...and that included steak...and Sharn Jean's family was the same. I don't think I ever ate a medium rare prime rib until I was thirty years old.
