YM2000 Rear Axle Leak

My left rear axle is leaking and I would like to try and repair. I have the seal and gasket and ready to attempt replacement. Need to know if there are any big tricks to getting the hub off. I know there is the one big bolt into the axle but is there anything else requiring any attention before pulling the hub. Any good tricks for removal without breaking. Need to borrow me a good puller I guess. I have seen posts before advising how easy it is to do but the hub seemed to have a different mind. Thanks guys.

Hey,

I changed a RIGHT rear seal on a YM2000 one time a couple years ago. It was very easy. My fault that it started leaking because I got barbed wire wrapped around the wheel. I think the hub came right off after we tapped it a little after we removed the nut.

Now, I don't know if the left side is the same as the right. If it is, you will loose all of your hydraulic fluid. We did on ours anyway. So, be sure you got the fluid with you to put back in.

I would really like to know where you bought the seal. We like to have never found one. This was long before I knew this website was here.

Thanks for the input. Had bought the seal and gasket from Lowes (Old Indiana yanmar dealer) before they went out of the yanmar business. I sure miss them as they were right down the road. I now would probably order from one of the dealers here on the web.

Sometimes the hubs about fall of & other times they can be really hard. I had one I finally cut a slot in it with a torch to get it off.

Sometimes you have to heat the hub with a torch and get it very hot before the hub will come off. Be careful not to damage the threads in the axle with your puller. Check the seal collar for grooves, if the collar has grooves then the new seal may not last very long. We have new seal collars if you need them.
